2-year-old boy can recite the periodic table! 12-year-old boy admitted to a US university
Suborno Isaac Barry, a boy living in New York State, was very smart since he was a child. He could recite the periodic table at the age of 2. Now, at the age of 12, he has been admitted to New York University and will start studying for an undergraduate degree in September this year.
According to CNN on June 30, Suborno graduated from Mulverne High School on Long Island, New York on June 26, becoming the youngest high school graduate in the school's history.
A New York University spokesman said in a letter to Suborno's parents that although no comprehensive statistics have been conducted, he is likely the youngest undergraduate ever admitted to the school.
Suborno was very smart since he was young. He could recite the periodic table at the age of two. After completing ninth grade, he skipped a grade and entered the third year of high school, and his grades were quite good. At the same time, he also took non-degree courses at many universities such as New York University.
"It was a new challenge for me," the boy recalled. "There was more homework to do, longer classes, and more new subjects and materials."
Suborno plans to finish his undergraduate studies in two years. "If I were to do a second doctorate, it would be in physics, but I want to focus on mathematics," he said.
According to his family, Suborno is also good at painting, debating and playing the piano. His father, Rashidul Bari, is a physics teacher at a well-known high school in New York City that specializes in science and engineering, and his mother, Shahda Bari, is an elementary school teacher. The two began to educate their son very early and discovered his extraordinary talent.
When Shaheed started teaching her son basic arithmetic in 2014, she found that he was very smart. According to his father Rashidul, Shaheed taught her son "1 plus 1 equals 2", and then asked him "1 plus 2 equals what", and the son answered "3". Then, the son asked his mother: "If 1 plus 1 equals 2, please tell me, what is n plus n?"
Although Suborno's question surprised the couple, they thought he was just trying to attract attention and didn't take it seriously. At the time, Rashidul was still studying mathematics. He told his mathematics professor about Suborno's performance, but was told that an ordinary 2-year-old child would never ask such a highly abstract question, and the couple should pay attention to their son's ability.
Suborno's amazing talent became increasingly difficult to ignore. However, the IQ testing organization Mensa Club informed his family that they would only give him an IQ test when he was 14 years old.
Suborno hopes to teach like his parents and become a professor of mathematics or physics.
