This year, the annual Shanghai Opera Month was upgraded to the Shanghai Opera Season for the first time. The 20 performances in the past 30 days have become more than 300 performances in more than 100 days. The number of performances in the Shanghai Opera Season, which lasts until October, is the highest in history.

"In 2024, Shanghai Opera Month will be expanded to Shanghai Opera Season for the first time. Wei Zhi, general convener of the Municipal Performing Arts Industry Association, revealed that this year 25 plays from 14 private Shanghai opera troupes have been selected and included in the Shanghai Opera Season repertoire list. The third series "external congratulatory repertoires" comes from the Shanghai Opera Season absorbing some Shanghai Operas with certain quality and Shanghai Opera troupes in the suburbs with potential for improvement to participate in the performances, among which there are many audiences who are familiar with classic excellent repertoires and like actors, and further increase the number of performances in the five new cities and suburbs.
