How did this woman from Huajing Town become a landmark figure in my country's textile industry?
Weaving, spinning, weaving and dyeing, the main processes of Wunijing handmade cotton textile craftsmanship are vividly presented in the Huang Daopo Memorial Hall in Huajing Town, Xuhui District. In recent years, the Xuhui District Women's Federation has actively created the "Flower Fragrance Xu Lai Hui Women" ideological and political brand and continued to innovate and explore. This year, it joined hands with Longhua Martyrs Cemetery, Song Qingling Memorial Hall, Qian Xuesen Library and Huang Daopo Memorial Hall, four patriotic education bases in the district, to set up the "Xuhui District Women's Ideological and Political Practice Point" to pass on the red gene by creating an immersive propaganda route.
On July 1, in celebration of the 103rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, three women's ideological and political practice sites in Xuhui District, including Longhua Martyrs Cemetery, Song Qingling Memorial Hall and Huang Daopo Memorial Hall, were unveiled. The Xuhui District Women's Federation cooperated with the three practice sites and Shanghai Normal University, a unit of the Xuhui University Women's Alliance, and jointly launched the "Gathering Women to Praise the Party's Grace and Take on the Mission - Women to Celebrate July 1st to the Party" city-wide relay event with Tianping Street, Longhua Street, Huajing Town, etc. During the event, the women's lecture practice was launched. On the morning and afternoon of July 1, the Xuhui District Women's Federation held immersive and explanatory lectures at the Longhua Martyrs Cemetery and the Huang Dao Po Memorial Hall. In the afternoon lecture, the city's March 8th Red Flag Bearer Tao Sunwei told the story of how Huang Dao Po combined multiple identities, including a pioneer of "clothing the world", a female scientist who dared to innovate, a cultural ambassador of ethnic integration, and a great craftsman who strived for excellence. Representatives from the Xuhui District Women's Federation, Xuhui's "Most Beautiful Families" and universities also visited the Huang Dao Po Memorial Hall and, as an interpreter, used the main processes of Wunijing handmade cotton textile techniques, such as "stretching, spinning, weaving, and dyeing", as a guide to tell the story of Huang Dao Po's pioneering textile techniques.
"The first process in cotton textile technology is to remove cotton seeds from cotton. Huang Dao Po created the stirring wheel based on the Li ethnic group's treadle wheel, improving the original method of removing cotton seeds by hand, greatly improving the efficiency of removing cotton seeds." Xie Xin, executive member of the Xuhui District Women's Federation, introduced that the stirring wheel innovated and promoted by Huang Dao Po was born more than 500 years earlier than the cotton gin invented by American Whitney, and it is of epoch-making significance.
What is more worth mentioning is that Huang Daopo also innovated and improved many tools of the traditional textile industry. For example, the original small slingshot with bamboo arc string in Jiangnan area was transformed into a large wooden bow with rope string of four feet long, and the "hand-plucking string" was changed to hitting the rope string with a sling, which greatly improved the efficiency of cotton fluffing, and the cotton fluffed out was fluffy and clean. The innovation of fluffing tools created important conditions for the rapid development of my country's hand-made cotton textile industry. In addition, Huang Daopo reformed the hand-cranked single-spindle spinning wheel into a pedal-operated three-spindle spinning wheel, which was also a major innovation in the history of cotton textile in the world. She also absorbed the advantages of the Li ethnic group's brocade technology of "wrong color matching yarn", combined with the advanced silk and linen weaving skills in Jiangnan, so that ordinary cotton cloth presented various beautiful patterns, creating a grand picture of "Songjun cotton cloth, clothing the world".
Earlier, on the afternoon of June 28, the Xuhui District Women's Federation also held a walking women's lecture at the Memorial Hall of Song Qingling's Former Residence, bringing the women's ideological and political party class "Memories of the Former Residence", combining precious audio-visual materials, and introducing the stories of Song Qingling when she lived in Shanghai from four chapters, including "Departing to the North, Governing State Affairs, Diplomatic Stage, and Lovely Home". The reporter learned from the Xuhui District Women's Federation that the district has currently held 19 women's theme lectures, covering nearly 800 participants.
