A female doctor of traditional Chinese medicine gave acupuncture to a woman on the same flight, and she suddenly fainted on the flight
On June 28, a thrilling and heartwarming scene occurred on flight CA1239 from Beijing to Lanzhou: a woman fainted due to an overdose of medication and was in critical condition. Thanks to a female doctor of traditional Chinese medicine who was on the same flight and gave her acupuncture and first aid, the woman was saved.
"At around 10:30 a.m. that day, 15 minutes before the plane was about to land, there was a sudden chaotic sound in the front of the cabin. A woman fell unconscious and the crew broadcast that medical assistance was needed. Four doctors on the same flight stood up and quickly went over to help. Among them was a female doctor who was a Chinese medicine practitioner. It was she who saved the woman with acupuncture," said Mr. Zhu, a citizen who was on this flight.
This morning, the reporter contacted Cao Feng, the woman who saved the life with acupuncture. She is a doctoral student at the Center for Evidence-Based Medicine, School of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. She recounted to the reporter what happened.
"Because Lanzhou is at a high altitude, the plane was bumpy. I am usually afraid of bumps. I was about to close my eyes and rest when I heard the crew calling for medical help. I instinctively stood up from my seat and went to help," said Cao Feng. At that time, three doctors were surrounding a woman to check and asked the flight attendants about the situation. It is reported that the woman came to Beijing alone for medical treatment. She took three drugs excessively on the plane, which caused a nervous system reaction, nosebleed and coma.
"I am a Chinese medicine practitioner, I can give it a try." After learning about the woman's condition, Cao Feng volunteered. The other three doctors made way for him, and Cao Feng felt the woman's pulse and found that her pulse was weak and her face was pale. He immediately diagnosed that she needed acupuncture first aid.
"Please help me get the bag on my seat. It contains the acupuncture needles I carry with me." The flight attendant helped Cao Feng get the bag. Cao Feng took out the needles and performed acupuncture on the woman's Hegu and Ren Zhong points. In less than a minute, the unconscious woman screamed and regained consciousness of pain, but her eyes were still closed.
"These two acupuncture points are for awakening the mind." Cao Feng continued to insert needles into these two acupuncture points. After two minutes, the woman slowly opened her eyes. Cao Feng checked her condition and found that the woman still could not see the surrounding environment clearly, and she was dizzy, nauseous, panicked, and had shortness of breath. Then, she continued to insert needles into her Neiguan and Baihui acupuncture points, and continued to insert needles. After about two or three minutes, the woman's physical condition gradually returned to normal.

Seeing the unconscious woman being rescued, the surrounding flight attendants and passengers applauded. One passenger exclaimed, "I didn't expect acupuncture could be used for first aid!" The Western medicine doctor who participated in the rescue also sighed, "Chinese acupuncture played a role at the critical moment."
"The woman's lips were very dry, she was a little dehydrated, and her face was a little pale." Cao Feng stayed with the woman until the plane landed, feeding her small amounts of water many times. "Because of the overdose of medicine, the girl still felt a little weak. She needed to transfer in Lanzhou, so I continued to give her acupuncture to keep her awake."
After the plane landed, the flight attendant asked the girl to turn on her phone and helped her contact her family. Cao Feng handed the woman over to the airline's medical team and left.
"That day I was going to Lanzhou University to attend a meeting on a collaborative project, but I didn't expect someone to suddenly fall ill on the plane. Many people on the plane lamented, 'I didn't expect acupuncture could be used for emergency treatment.' I was deeply touched when I heard that, and I feel proud of the major I have studied," said Cao Feng.
The reporter learned that Cao Feng, 29 years old this year, has studied medicine for ten years. She studied for a master's degree at the School of Acupuncture and Massage of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. She worked in the Acupuncture Department of Zhongguancun Community Health Service Center in Haidian District for one year. She is currently studying for a doctorate at the Center for Evidence-Based Medicine of the School of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Beijing University of Chinese Medicine. "I was able to give acupuncture to save people in time, thanks to the training and guidance of the school and teachers in professional knowledge and ideological education. As a Chinese medicine doctor, you must have the responsibility and courage to save the dying and the wounded, and you must constantly improve your clinical skills, integrate knowledge and practice, and be a person who contributes to society." Cao Feng said.
