Affected by continuous heavy rainfall, the western side of the northern section of the Shuiting Gate city wall in Quzhou, Zhejiang, partially collapsed in the early morning of June 26, with no casualties or people trapped at the scene. According to a situation report issued by the Quzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture, Radio, Film and Tourism on the morning of the 26th, a safety cordon has been set up around the collapsed area, and experts are being organized to assess the collapse.
According to the forecast of the meteorological department on the 25th, Quzhou will be cloudy with showers or thunderstorms from the evening to the night of that day, with moderate to heavy rainfall, local torrential rain, and some heavy rainstorms; on the 26th and 27th, it will be cloudy with showers or thunderstorms, with moderate to heavy rainfall in some areas, and local torrential rain. Earlier on the morning of the 24th, the Quzhou Meteorological Observatory upgraded the yellow warning signal for heavy rain in Kecheng District to an orange warning, reminding people to pay attention to and prevent geological disasters, mountain torrents in small watersheds, urban and rural waterlogging, etc. that may be caused by heavy rainfall.
Public information shows that the Quzhou City Wall is located in the Quzhou Ancient City Cultural Tourism Zone in Kecheng District. It was first built in the Tang Dynasty and continued to be repaired in the Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. The existing city wall was mainly repaired in the 13th year of Chongzhen in the Ming Dynasty. It is 1,500 meters long and has 1,000 meters of city wall ruins. There are six city gates, a moat, an ancient bell tower pedestal, etc. In May 2006, the Quzhou City Wall was announced by the State Council as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units.
According to the official website, the Quzhou Ancient City Cultural Tourism Area consists of the Confucius Temple area, the historical and cultural block, Xin'an Lake-Yanjiayu Island, and Luming Peninsula, including the Confucius Nanzong Family Temple, Shuitingmen, Beimen Street Historical and Cultural Block and other major attractions. The Shuitingmen Historical and Cultural Block includes the Shuitingmen Ancient Block and the Ancient City Wall Ruins Park. It is the historical and cultural block with the most concentrated local traditional style buildings, the richest historical and cultural relics, and the best preserved street texture. It retains the original "three streets and seven lanes" pattern, and has 14 national, provincial and municipal key cultural relics protection units such as the Quzhou City Wall, and 59 municipal historical buildings.
