The Chinese Scholars and the Development of Shanghai in the 21st Century Seminar was held to discuss "AI4S: A New Paradigm for Scientific Research"
Yesterday, the 14th "Chinese Scholars and the Development of Shanghai in the 21st Century" seminar with the theme of "AI4S: A New Paradigm for Scientific Research" was held at Fudan University. During the meeting, Chen Tong, member of the Standing Committee of the Municipal Party Committee and Minister of the United Front Work Department, met with the delegates. Jin Li, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of Fudan University, gave a closing speech.
Ou Weinan, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and director of the Beijing Institute of Big Data, delivered a keynote speech. He elaborated on the new paradigm of scientific research from four parts: "Two basic methods of scientific research", "Dilemmas faced by scientific research for a long time", "Breakthroughs brought by AI methods in scientific research", and "Scientific research from a holistic perspective". He also advocated the construction of the AI for Science academic ecosystem to jointly define the future of scientific computing.
Guo Yike, foreign academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering and chief vice-president of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, spoke on the topic of "AI for Science & Science for AI", Li Zexiang, chairman of Googol Technology, founder of XBOTPARK Robot Base and professor of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, spoke on the topic of "From new engineering education to new quality productivity: end-to-end, high-quality and high-efficiency scientific and technological innovation ecosystem construction exploration", Qi Yuan, dean of Shanghai Institute of Science and Intelligence and Haoqing Distinguished Professor of Fudan University, spoke on the topic of "Artificial intelligence drives scientific paradigm change and industrial development", and Ma Jian, co-founder of Jingtai Technology and co-chairman of Zhangjiang AI New Drug Research and Development Alliance, spoke on the topic of "AI for Science from the perspective of scientific philosophy", sharing from different perspectives how to use AI technology to promote the innovation and development of scientific research paradigms. Experts, scholars and professionals from universities, research institutes, technology companies and financial investment institutions also conducted in-depth discussions on "AI LIFE" and "AITECHNOLOGY".
Li Lin, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and president of the Shanghai Western Returned Scholars Association, presided over the meeting. Wu Zhiqiang, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and executive vice president of the Shanghai Western Returned Scholars Association, presided over the closing ceremony. The forum was jointly sponsored by the Shanghai Overseas Friendship Association, the Shanghai Western Returned Scholars Association, and the Shanghai Young and Middle-aged Intellectuals Association, and co-organized by Fudan University.
