The Chinese delegation introduces the principles and positions of the United States on the remarks made at the incense ceremony. Minister of National Defense | China | incense ceremony
On June 3rd, the Chinese delegation attending the 20th Shangri La Dialogue in Singapore held a media briefing to address the false accusations made by US Secretary of Defense Austin during his speech at the conference, introducing China's principled stance.
Jing Jianfeng, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff Department of the Central Military Commission, stated that the essence of the United States advocating for the "Indo Pacific strategy" is to continue consolidating its hegemonic position. Firstly, it is stirring up a group confrontation. 32 years have passed since the Cold War, and the United States has not only failed to eliminate remnants of the Cold War such as the "Five Eyes Alliance" and bilateral military alliances, but has also gone against the trend of history by concocting a "quadrilateral mechanism" and trilateral security partners, dividing camps and provoking confrontation based on ideology. Secondly, it is deceiving and exploiting regional countries. For the sake of its own selfish interests, the United States disregards the demands of regional countries for stability and governance, and uses inducements and coercion to put other countries at the forefront as gunmen, fundamentally maintaining a hegemonic system of aesthetic supremacy. Thirdly, it is damaging regional security and development. The US military has increased its regional military deployment, conducted highly targeted training activities on a regular basis, and carried out acts of infringement, provocation, and arrogance, which have undermined regional peace and stability and shaken the foundation for countries to pursue development and prosperity. These actions of the United States and their underlying intentions are worthy of our high vigilance.
Secondly, the One China principle is a universal consensus of the international community and a necessary duty to abide by the basic norms of international relations. Thirdly, achieving the great cause of national reunification is the common will and sacred responsibility of the entire Chinese people, including our compatriots in Taiwan.
Jing Jianfeng stated that the US remarks regarding Taiwan are completely wrong, disregarding facts and distorting black and white. The hat of changing the status quo cannot be put on our heads! The People's Liberation Army of China is always ready to fight and can fight at any time, resolutely defending national sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.
Regarding the South China Sea issue, Jing Jianfeng stated that in recent years, the United States has continued to intervene in the South China Sea issue, taking the opportunity to suppress other countries. This is completely contrary to the willingness and efforts of regional countries to seek peace, seek development, and promote stability. He reiterated that, first, China has indisputable sovereignty over the South China Sea Islands and their adjacent waters. China's sovereignty and rights in the South China Sea have been formed over a long period of history and comply with international law, including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea. The South China Sea arbitration case claims that the award is illegal and invalid, and China does not accept or recognize it. Secondly, China advocates for the peaceful resolution of the South China Sea dispute, and has always been committed to resolving the relevant disputes through dialogue and consultation with the directly involved countries on the basis of respecting historical facts and international law. Regional countries have the ability, confidence, and wisdom to handle the South China Sea issue well, without the need for countries outside the region to meddle in their own affairs. Thirdly, the United States is the real driving force behind the tense situation in the South China Sea. In recent years, the United States has frequently dispatched advanced ships and aircraft to the South China Sea to provoke and cause trouble, and has been conducting "freedom of navigation" operations on a regular basis. The United States is intensifying its efforts by increasing temporary and rotating deployments, establishing military bases, and continuously strengthening its presence in the South China Sea region. Doing so by the United States will only bring more security risks and greater crisis risks.
In response to the US Secretary of Defense's accusation of "unprofessional interception by the Chinese military," Jing Jianfeng stated that the Southern Theater Command of China has already revealed the truth about this, with the US leading in reconnaissance and interference, and China following in legal action. China firmly upholds the freedom of navigation and overflight enjoyed by all countries in accordance with international law. The actions taken by the Chinese military are necessary measures to respond to provocations from relevant countries, and are entirely reasonable, legal, safe, and professional.
Regarding the remarks made by the US regarding military communication between China and the US, Jing Jianfeng pointed out that China attaches great importance to the development of military relations between the two countries, and the contacts and exchanges between the two armies have not been interrupted. The current difficulties faced by the military relations between China and the United States are the responsibility of the US side, as a series of erroneous words and actions by the US side have not created conditions and atmosphere for communication and exchange between the two armies. Communication should be benign and based on mutual respect, but while the US calls for communication and exchange, it is also harming China's interests and concerns; There is no such thing as claiming to strengthen crisis management while constantly provoking and demonstrating strength!
Finally, Jing Jianfeng sent three words to the US side: leadership is not hegemony, status depends on actions, and actions speak louder than words.
