Indonesian scholar: The Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence have provided guidance for dealing with regional issues China News Service | Yusuf | Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence
China News Service, Beijing, June 28 (Xinhua) Yusuf Wanandi, co-founder of the Indonesian Center for Strategic and International Studies, said in Beijing on the 28th that the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence have provided guidance for dealing with international and regional issues, "all we need to do is implement them."
On the same day, a forum commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence was held in Beijing. During the sub-forum "From the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to Building a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind: The Contemporary Value of Asian Wisdom", Yusuf accepted an exclusive interview with a reporter from China News Service during the tea break.
Yusuf pointed out that we should first realize that the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence were put forward as important guiding principles for dealing with international relations. In the face of today's turbulent world, China reaffirms the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence and regards them as the basis for international cooperation and a method for dealing with international issues. "It is an answer to solving the current crisis."
Yusuf believes that the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence should be placed in promoting relevant UN processes and dealing with regional issues to further play their important role. For example, dialogue should be conducted based on the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence to properly handle the South China Sea issue and avoid conflicts. These important and effective principles have provided guidance for solving relevant issues, and "what we need to do is to implement them."
Asia is an important part of the world. When asked how Asian countries should deal with their relationship with the world, Yusuf said that first of all, they should unite, which is also the importance of the Five Principles of Peaceful Coexistence. "We can use these principles to take care of ourselves, and for this, Asian countries must unite. We should understand and tell ourselves that we can do it, but we have to do it together."
