Xi Jinping holds talks with Peruvian President Boruarte
BEIJING, June 28 (Xinhua) -- Chinese President Xi Jinping held talks with Peruvian President Antonio Borruarte, who was on a state visit to China, at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing on the afternoon of June 28.
Xi Jinping pointed out that both China and Peru are ancient civilizations, and the friendship between the two countries has a long history and the friendship between the peoples is deeply rooted in the hearts of the people. Peru is one of the first Latin American countries to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, the first to establish a comprehensive strategic partnership with China, and the first Latin American country to sign a package of free trade agreements with China. In recent years, with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Peru cooperation in various fields has achieved fruitful results. Major cooperation projects of Chinese enterprises in Peru have played an important role in Peru's economic development and improvement of people's livelihood. China attaches great importance to the development of China-Peru relations and is willing to work with Peru to consolidate political mutual trust, deepen practical cooperation, promote mutual learning among civilizations, strengthen multilateral cooperation, and push the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.
Xi Jinping stressed that mutual respect and equal treatment are China's consistent way of dealing with the world, and are also the fundamental reason why the China-Peru comprehensive strategic partnership has always maintained a high level of development. China supports Peru in taking a development path that suits its national conditions, and is willing to firmly support each other with Peru and unswervingly promote China-Peru friendly cooperation. The two sides should give full play to the role of the strategic dialogue mechanism for economic cooperation between the two governments, connect the eight actions of China to support the high-quality joint construction of the "Belt and Road" with the development needs of Peru, coordinate and promote cooperation in the fields of mining, energy, manufacturing, agriculture, etc., and expand cooperation in emerging fields such as new energy, digital economy, artificial intelligence, and digital medicine. We welcome more high-quality Peruvian products to enter the Chinese market, and hope that Peru will provide a good legal and policy environment for Chinese companies to invest in Peru and cooperate in the long term. The two sides should work together to ensure that the Chancay Port is completed as scheduled and becomes a new land-sea channel between China and Latin America, so that "Chancay to Shanghai" will truly become a prosperous road to promote the common development of China and Peru. China is willing to provide more scholarships for Peruvian young students to come to China, strengthen cooperation in education, culture, tourism, youth, media and other fields, and lay a more solid public opinion foundation for the development of bilateral relations.
Xi Jinping pointed out that both China and Peru are important emerging markets in the Pacific Rim and important members of the "Global South". The two sides should strengthen solidarity and cooperation, jointly promote the common values of all mankind, advocate an equal and orderly world multipolarization and inclusive economic globalization, and promote the common development of the "Global South" countries. China actively supports Peru in hosting this year's APEC Leaders' Informal Meeting, maintaining the correct direction of Asia-Pacific cooperation, and sending out positive signals to the outside world of building an open Asia-Pacific economy and jointly promoting world economic growth. China attaches great importance to the development of China-Latin America relations and is willing to work with Peru and other Latin American and Caribbean countries to promote overall cooperation between China and Latin America and jointly build a community with a shared future for China and Latin America.
Boruart said that it was an honor to lead important cabinet ministers and economic representatives to visit China. Peru and China are both ancient civilizations in the world. Historically, Chinese have made important contributions to the development of Peru. In recent years, the exchanges and cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy, trade, and culture between the two countries have achieved fruitful results. In particular, the investment and cooperation of Chinese companies in Peru have not only created a large number of jobs for Peru, but also brought advanced technology and experience. Through these two days of visits to Shenzhen, Shanghai, Suzhou and other places, we have personally experienced China's rapid development and technological progress, and also explored many areas where we can expand cooperation in the future. Peru sincerely admires the great achievements made by China and hopes to learn from China's successful experience and help Peru better realize its own development by further expanding and strengthening practical cooperation between the two countries. We welcome more Chinese companies to invest in Peru and strengthen cooperation in infrastructure, green development, clean energy and other fields. Peru is willing to provide a good business environment for Chinese companies. Peru looks forward to working with China to complete the Chancay Port project as scheduled and better benefit the people of the two countries. Since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1971, the Peruvian government has always pursued the one-China policy, and Peru will continue to firmly adhere to the one-China principle. The Peruvian side supports the series of global initiatives proposed by President Xi Jinping and is willing to strengthen communication and cooperation with China within multilateral frameworks such as the United Nations and the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), jointly uphold multilateralism and promote an open world economy.
After the talks, the two heads of state jointly witnessed the signing of the Joint Action Plan of the Government of the People's Republic of China and the Government of the Republic of Peru from 2024 to 2029 and a number of bilateral cooperation documents in the fields of economic and trade cooperation, digital economy, scientific and technological innovation, inspection and quarantine, news media, etc. The two sides announced the substantial completion of the negotiations on upgrading the free trade agreement.
Before the talks, Xi Jinping held a welcoming ceremony for Boruart in the square outside the east gate of the Great Hall of the People.
When Boruart arrived, honor guards lined up to salute. The two heads of state stepped onto the reviewing stand, the military band played the national anthems of China and Peru, and 21 gun salutes were fired in Tiananmen Square. Accompanied by Xi Jinping, Boruart reviewed the Chinese People's Liberation Army Guard of Honor and watched the parade.
