On June 6, the conference hall of the National Convention and Exhibition Center welcomed many international friends wearing distinctive national costumes. In order to strengthen the international exchange of experience in the protection of intangible cultural heritage, the 2024 International Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Forum was jointly organized by the Shanghai Art Museum, Shanghai Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Center, and Shanghai Vocational College of Arts and Crafts. The theme of this forum is "Intangible Cultural Heritage Seeking Innovation—Diversified Expressions and Social Participation of Intangible Cultural Heritage". 24 experts and scholars from 8 countries including the United Kingdom, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, and Japan discussed the responsibilities of cultural and museum institutions in protecting intangible cultural heritage. , multiple perspectives of intangible cultural heritage protection, regional characteristics of intangible cultural heritage protection and other themes, and share the experience of intangible cultural heritage protection in various countries.
As an international metropolis, Shanghai also has intangible cultural heritage resources passed down from generation to generation. They embody the unique traditional concepts, aesthetic personality and humanistic spirit of Shanghai, a Shanghai-style city. Since the intangible cultural heritage protection work was officially launched in 2005, Shanghai has gradually established an intangible cultural heritage protection list system. As of now, there are 63 representative projects of national-level intangible cultural heritage, 273 projects at the municipal level, and nearly 800 projects at the district level. There are 120 representative inheritors at the national level, 794 at the municipal level, and nearly a thousand at the district level. Among them, 19 intangible cultural heritage projects are included in the national traditional craft revitalization catalog, and 4 protection units are rated as national-level intangible cultural heritage productive properties. Protect the demonstration base. These rich and colorful intangible cultural heritages are full of vitality in the new era and have become important connotations and resources for improving Shanghai’s urban soft power.

As an important event to commemorate China's Natural and Cultural Heritage Day, the "International Intangible Cultural Heritage Protection Forum" has been held for 11 consecutive years and is included in the "Shanghai Culture" brand building planning project and the "Shanghai Traditional Crafts Revitalization Plan" A key project, it is also a key cultural exchange project for the Shanghai Municipal Government to promote the construction of “Belt and Road” sister cities. The forum has also been listed by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China as an important celebration event to commemorate the "Convention for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage." It is also a supporting event of the "International Traditional Art Invitational Exhibition" that has been held for 14 consecutive years.
The "14th International Traditional Art Invitational Exhibition" will be unveiled at the Shanghai Art Museum from June 7, displaying more than 180 masterpieces of art from 31 countries. In the exhibition, visitors can appreciate glass artworks by Czech artists, fabric paintings by Chilean artists, paintings using rust and toner by Slovak painters, Japanese ceramics, assemblage sculptures by French and Danish artists, etc. At the same time, Chinese artists have also demonstrated their profound artistic heritage and innovative capabilities. They combine traditional skills such as core carving, tapestry, and metal crafts with modern design to create artistic masterpieces that have both traditional essence and modern charm. The exhibition will end on July 8.
