Big Zero Bay Library Holds a Series of Science Popularization Reports, How "National Treasures" Sail towards Deep Blue China | Aircraft Carrier | Deep Blue
"Telling a good story of Chinese path to modernization through science popularization -2023 big hand in small hand science popularization report collection", a series of important national activities, was recently launched in Minhang District's Big Zero Bay Library. During the summer vacation, this series of activities will be themed "China's Far Away Ship, Pursuing Dreams and Setting Sail", and will hold interesting knowledge popularization lectures on aircraft carriers, supply ships, hospital ships, nuclear submarines, mine warships, amphibious assault ships, cruise ships, research ships, liquefied gas ships, and many other ships, stimulating the curiosity, imagination, and exploration desire of young readers.
A new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation is reconstructing the world and reshaping life. Aircraft carriers, domestically produced large aircraft, Tianwen-1, China's Tianyan, quantum computers... each of these "national treasures" provides impetus for China's development. Taking ships as the main theme, the National Defense Science Popularization Report Team of the China Association for Science and Technology has hired multiple experts with design experience in the Chinese shipbuilding industry to tell the stories behind the "national treasure" to young people, allowing them to learn about ships, broaden their scientific perspectives, and enhance their scientific thinking.
"Looking back at China's national defense industry, especially its historical achievements in shipbuilding, the 'three ships and passengers' of deep-sea equipment, nuclear submarines, and aircraft carriers have sailed towards Deep Blue to assist in the new era of national defense construction." Tian Xiaochuan, Chief Expert and Head of the Reporting Team of the China Shipbuilding Engineering Society, said, "Youth are the future of our motherland. It is great to see so many students interested in the development of ships and the ocean, especially in the construction and development of our country's ships."

At the launch ceremony, Liang Qikang, former director of the 708th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Corporation, delivered the first themed lecture of a series of activities. He takes the development history of domestically produced aircraft carriers in China as the core, starting from the origin of China's century long aircraft carrier dream, and explains to readers the development process, current situation overview, structural characteristics, and future development trends of aircraft carriers, allowing readers to have a more comprehensive understanding of China's aircraft carriers and technological development.
Shanghai Science and Technology Publishing House has launched an original full spectrum ship science popularization series exclusively for young people, titled "National Heavy Weapon - Ship Science Popularization Series". It was compiled by nearly 200 senior, middle-aged, and young scientific and technological workers engaged in ship and marine engineering research, design, and construction over the past three years, covering major military and civilian ship types such as aircraft carriers, submarines, frigates, destroyers, aerospace survey ships, ocean research ships, and dredgers. Editor in chief Zhang Yi expressed the hope that during this summer, young readers can explore the technological world and absorb relevant scientific knowledge at the Zero Bay Library, while setting their dreams ablaze.
The series of activities are guided by the Youth Science and Technology Center of the China Association for Science and Technology and the Shanghai Association for Science and Technology. They are organized by the Shanghai Society of Shipbuilding and Ocean Engineering, the 708th Research Institute of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation, the Shanghai Youth Research Center, the Minhang District Youth Work Committee, the Jiangchuan Road Sub district Office of Minhang District, Shanghai Science and Technology Publishing House, and Shanghai Book Co., Ltd., with a total of 9 events held.
