State Grid Shanghai Pudong Power Supply Company joins hands with China Central Depository and Clearing Corporation to unlock new green power for data centers
Data centers are already strategic resources and public infrastructure that support future economic and social development. However, as the scale of my country's data centers continues to grow, the proportion of data center electricity consumption in the entire society's electricity consumption continues to rise. Facing the huge pressure of energy consumption, how to optimize the energy consumption structure, improve energy utilization, reduce carbon emissions, and achieve green transformation and upgrading has become an important issue before us. Faced with this challenge, State Grid Shanghai Pudong Power Supply Company uses the smart energy dual-carbon cloud platform jointly built by the government and enterprises as a carrier to actively provide all-round energy services for data center enterprises.
As part of the country's core financial infrastructure, CCDC Shanghai Kayuan Data Center located in Pudong provides solid support for the construction of Shanghai International Financial Center and global science and technology innovation center. In the Shanghai Kayuan Data Center of CCDC, which spans over 40,000 square meters in Pudong, rows of servers are running efficiently. Since December 2020, State Grid Shanghai Pudong Power Supply Company has used the "dual path" service model to provide stable power supply services while tailoring the energy dual carbon function for the Shanghai Kayuan Data Center on the smart energy dual carbon cloud platform. Application and energy carbon emission analysis reports help optimize data center energy consumption structure, improve energy efficiency levels, and refine energy management through technical guidance.
Chen Yun, Director of the Chief Engineer Office of State Grid Shanghai Pudong Power Supply Company, said: "Although the energy consumption of data centers has its own particularities, through in-depth research on the green data center evaluation standards, we have constructed indicators including energy operation activities based on power data. 19 analysis indicators in three categories, including energy dual carbon indicators and data center special indicators, provide customized energy carbon emission analysis reports for data centers.”
In order to ensure the timeliness, accuracy and completeness of data access, State Grid Shanghai Pudong Power Supply Company went to the site for multiple inspections. Through multiple on-site inspections and technical checks, the load power supply circuit, sub-measurement name, and PUE energy efficiency index calculation were clarified. These issues provide scientific basis for the green transformation of data centers.
Up to now, the Smart Energy Dual Carbon Cloud Platform has processed 110 million pieces of secondary and tertiary energy consumption data of Shanghai data centers and generated more than 30 "Energy Carbon Emission Analysis Reports" to help the data center understand its total energy carbon emissions and electricity usage. Efficiency and peer benchmarking rankings, etc. According to the center, the data center makes full use of the roof resources and introduces a distributed photovoltaic power generation system. The power generation capacity will reach more than 48,000 kWh in 2023. The proportion of green electricity used in the data center has increased significantly, and the cumulative reduction of carbon dioxide emissions has exceeded 20 tons. In addition, compared with the initial stage of production, the average annual power utilization efficiency of the main production area of the data center reached 1.35, achieving energy savings of more than 17%. It has achieved remarkable results in green transformation and has been recognized by Shanghai Kayuan Data Center. It plans to further expand the distributed photovoltaic construction area and increase the proportion of green power in the data center.
State Grid Shanghai Pudong Power Supply Company also injects new impetus into the company's dual carbon goals through digital intelligence empowerment. In September 2023, in order to further tap the potential of energy conservation and carbon reduction and accelerate the enterprise's dual-carbon process, State Grid Shanghai Pudong Power Supply Company promoted the upgrade of data center energy services based on the basis of early cooperation and data. Functional applications such as energy carbon emission monitoring, analysis, early warning and reporting have been customized for it on the smart energy dual carbon cloud platform. These functions rely on the multi-faceted advantages of power data to achieve real-time monitoring, accurate analysis and efficient judgment of secondary and tertiary metering data in the Shanghai Kayuan Data Center, allowing data center managers to clearly understand the energy composition of the entire park and each building. , classify energy consumption, energy carbon emissions, energy efficiency PUE, etc. This innovative measure not only improves the efficiency of corporate energy management, but also provides strong support for the company to achieve its dual carbon goals.
On June 6, CCDC Shanghai Kayuan Data Center won the National Green Data Center Unit Award from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology for its outstanding performance in green data center construction. The achievement of this honor not only demonstrates the important role of new era infrastructure in the construction of Digital China, but also reflects the remarkable results of energy services in the green transformation of data centers.
Chen Yun said: "On the premise of ensuring the safe and reliable operation of the data center, we will continue to explore ways to help Shanghai Kayuan Data Center improve the utilization rate of various energy sources and reduce carbon emissions through virtual power plant response and HVAC optimization."
The end of computing power is electricity. In the future, State Grid Shanghai Pudong Power Supply Company will continue to use digital energy services to enhance the "green content" of the data center, drive the "gold content" of development, transform from power supply services to energy services, and help create a "leader" in energy efficiency and carbon efficiency in the industry.
