Continuing to focus on the growth and counterattack of small people, Happy Twist's new play of the year "Chu Ma" is here

Release time:Jun 27, 2024 13:12 PM

On July 12, Shanghai Happy Twist's new play "Chu Ma" will premiere nationwide at the Hongqiao Art Center. On June 26, the play premiered at the Daning Theater. The creative team ingeniously added ancient style, suspense, folk customs and other elements to Happy Twist's original comedy, bringing a new experience of summer joy.

"Going Out" revolves around a fictional mystery of the Ming Dynasty. Mr. Qin, the richest man in Deqing County, died suddenly, his will was smeared, and a huge amount of property was waiting to be divided. Mr. Qin's wife, concubine, and son were eager to fight for the inheritance. Northeast Going Out Master Li Dapu spoke for the ghost and made a fortune by dealing with the three wives. Unexpectedly, he seemed to have really attracted a ghost, and also triggered the secret of the old house.

"The most important thing about comedy is the laughs. The laughs and gags in "Chu Ma" all come from the situation, not from the saliva or low-level jokes." Director Ai Chunxu said that "Chu Ma", inspired by the "Chu Ma Xian" in the folk culture of Northeast China, focuses on the word "strange". The creative team spent nearly two years preparing for the dislocated comedy of the struggle between the rich and powerful, consulting many materials and classic works, and gradually optimizing the structure and plot. The seemingly casual details in the play, such as the names and titles between officials and the rules of the rich and powerful, have been carefully considered, striving to make the structure, gags and plot arrangements seamless, and to impress and amuse the audience with sincerity.

From July 12 to August 11, "Chu Ma" will be performed 27 times in a row. The core of the story is similar to the classic works of Happy Twist, such as "The Earl of Wulong Mountain", "Charlotte's Troubles" and "The Moon Walks Alone", focusing on the growth and counterattack of small people. The "workplace scoundrel" who pretends to be a horse-riding master is involved in the conspiracy of the rich family to fight for the family property in order to make money. He awakens the instinct of kindness and justice and achieves great things instead.

Shanghai Happy Twist continues to release new works every year and delve deeply into the comedy track. In recent years, it has continued to expand the audience circle and cognition with the Republic of China comedy "Spring Breeze Can't" and the Lo-Fi crossover comedy "Happy New Year". "Originality is the soul of content production. It turns out that comedy can be played like this." Fei Yiqun, general manager of Shanghai Happy Twist, said, "This is a return to the original intention of Happy Twist and a reflection of reality."

The stage design and costumes of "Chu Ma" are derived from the Ming Dynasty Huizhou architecture and cultural style. The stage has been innovated according to the plot structure from comedy to suspense and horror. On the basis of three turntables, some small turntables are superimposed, like a magic cube that can be switched back and forth to show different plots and atmospheres.

Qiao Yang, who is 59 years old this year, reminds people of Sisyphus in Greek mythology. She is a resident artist of the Hong Kong City Contemporary Dance Troupe, and there are very few full-time dancers of this age worldwide. She started dancing at the age of 12 and has been dancing from Chinese dance to modern dance for 47 years, from Baoji in Shaanxi to Guangzhou, and then to Hong Kong. Qiao Yang has sharp short hair and fine wrinkles spreading around the corners of her eyes, but if you watch her dance, you will be amazed at how young her body is. From June 30th to July 2nd, "Qiao Yang 55" was performed three times in a row at the Shanghai International Dance Center. This 70 minute solo dance was a great test of skill, physical strength, and expression, which is unbelievable. It was completed by a 59 year old dancer. The performance of "Qiao Yang 55" in Shanghai has all come from decades of extreme self-discipline
