Wu Peng, the predecessor, has been appointed as Chinese ambassador to South Africa, and Du Xiaohui has been appointed as director general of the Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The vacancy has been filled after Wu Peng, former director of the Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was transferred to become China's ambassador to South Africa.
Recently, a reporter from The Paper noticed that the updated information in the "Organizational Structure" column of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' official website showed that Du Xiaohui has been appointed Director General of the Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Public information shows that Du Xiaohui, male, was born in March 1975 in Qingdao, Shandong Province, and holds a master's degree in international relations. He has served as counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Austria, counselor of the Protocol Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, consul general in Hamburg, and ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary to the Republic of Zambia.
Earlier, Wu Peng, former director of the Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, was appointed as China's ambassador to South Africa.
Public information shows that Wu Peng was born in February 1967. In 1990, Wu Peng joined the Beijing Diplomatic Personnel Service Bureau, and then served as a clerk, attaché, third secretary, and second secretary in the General Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1993. In 2001, Wu Peng began to work abroad, and served as the second secretary and first secretary of the Chinese Embassy in the United Kingdom, and counselor of the Permanent Mission to the United Nations, until he resigned and returned to China in 2010. After returning to China, Wu Peng served as counselor and deputy director of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and in 2014 he served as deputy mayor of Sanya City, Hainan Province.
In 2016, Wu Peng went abroad again to serve as ambassador to Sierra Leone until he was appointed ambassador to Kenya, permanent representative to the United Nations Environment Programme, and permanent representative to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in March 2019. In July 2020, Wu Peng was appointed director-general of the Department of African Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Chen Xiaodong, formerly China's ambassador to South Africa, was appointed Vice Foreign Minister in March this year.
