On August 27th this year, Shanghai Grand Theatre will celebrate its 25th anniversary of opening. On June 6th, the theme of the 25th anniversary celebration, "Hello! Goddess of Art," was announced. A series of activities centered around the "reproduction" of the first giant mural in the Grand Theatre's collection, "Goddess of Art," will be the highlight of the 25th anniversary celebration. The 2023 Summer Season performance menu was the first to be released, playing the prelude to the 25th anniversary celebration.
In 1998, renowned American painter Ding Shaoguang was invited to create a huge mural titled "Goddess of Art" for the newly built Shanghai Grand Theatre at that time. In 2002, the mural "Goddess of Art" repaired by Ding Shaoguang himself was permanently housed in the Art Collection of the Grand Theatre.

In order to better protect the original work, the mural "Goddess of Art" is kept in an art collection with constant temperature and humidity conditions, and is open to the public for appreciation during social art education series activities such as theater open days. At present, the Grand Theater has hired professionals to replicate the giant paintings that are 6.4 meters wide and 4.4 meters high. The replication of the murals will be under the supervision of Ding Shaoguang, accurately restoring the essence of details. The murals that will be hung in the lobby of the Grand Theater will be replicated.
In recent years, the "Oriental Stage Aesthetics Series" produced by the Grand Theatre has been a stage creation that rediscovers the excellent traditional Chinese culture, and has received attention for its interpretation that conforms to the aesthetic of the times. The mural Goddess of Art, with the image of "Flying Sky" in the Northern Wei Dynasty as the background, symbolizes the essence of ancient Chinese art, and will become a new case for the Grand Theater to increase its independent IP development efforts.
On the occasion of the 25th anniversary, the Grand Theatre has reached a strategic cooperation with Shanghai Fine Arts Film Studio to develop and create the first animated short film, making the mural "Goddess of Art" more popular among young people. The cultural and creative products developed by the Grand Theater based on the mural "Goddess of Art" will be launched, and recorded images have also been put on the agenda. Various plans provide hope for the "Goddess of Art" to be vividly reproduced.
On June 4th, the Chinese version of the musical "Phantom of the Theater" just concluded, and the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival is about to kick off on June 9th. The Shanghai International Art Festival in China will also be held in the golden autumn. In the year of the 25th anniversary celebration, not only are international large-scale festivals and exhibitions "re dressed", but also famous works from domestic and foreign groups have successively landed at the Shanghai Grand Theatre. In the 2023 "Summer Season", a batch of classic Chinese dramas and high-quality original programs will be launched first.
The first major play to make its debut in Shanghai is the classic play "The Price" by American theater master Arthur Miller. This is the second time actor He Bing has appeared at the Shanghai Grand Theatre after nine years, and it is also his first time bringing a self directed and self performed play to Shanghai. The original work of this classic play has won international awards such as Tony Awards and Emmy Awards several times.
25 years ago, the Central Ballet "Swan Lake" was officially unveiled at the Grand Theatre. This year, the Chinese Ballet brought its original ballet "Dream of the Red Chamber" and classic masterpiece "Little Mermaid" to the Grand Theatre, both of which were performed live by conductor Zhang Yi and the Shanghai Philharmonic Orchestra. The ballet "Dream of the Red Chamber" is being performed for the first time in Shanghai.

The "Out of Art Materials" Food and Art Festival, with the slogan "A Good Play, Taste in It", will conclude on June 23rd in the "Summer Season". More than 30 food and cultural themed performances are mainly launched at "Yangpu Home", and the Chinese version of the percussion music and dance show "Luan Da Shen Chef Show" is the closing ceremony of the Food and Art Festival at YOUNG Theater.
The Shanghai Grand Theatre 25th Anniversary Commemorative Exhibition, launched during the Food and Art Festival, will continue to be exhibited. Viewers can further understand the architectural history and cultural brand of the Grand Theatre from the history of its birth, the landscape installations of "Eastern Stage Aesthetics", a selection of performance posters, and a selection of musical materials.
