This Tongji student who is about to graduate has a new choice. After donating all his national scholarships
Seven years ago, Wu Mingtao, who was still a senior high school student, was one of the students of the "Nursery Program" of Tongji University Huzhou No. 2 Middle School. He introduced and demonstrated the team's innovative flag-raising device project to Tongji teachers from Shanghai. His rigorous logical thinking and meticulous data research won full recognition and praise from the teachers present.
Seven years later, Wu Mingtao returned to his alma mater, Huzhou No. 2 Middle School, as a student of Tongji University. He donated all of his newly-won national scholarship of 20,000 yuan to his alma mater and established the Huzhou No. 2 Middle School "Seedling Scholarship". Wu Mingtao said that this was his little token of appreciation, and he hoped to use his meager strength to encourage the younger students who participated in the "Seedling Program" to be innovative, brave enough to pursue their dreams, and work hard to get into their favorite universities.
In a few days, he will graduate. Wu Mingtao from the School of Transportation Engineering of Tongji University chose to become a Shanghai selected student. From a student to a public servant, he is very happy to have found his own value in life.
When Wu Mingtao was in high school, he and his classmates often heard lectures from professors of Tongji University on campus. The profound and easy-to-understand popular science language made the high school students present very interested in exploring science. After the high school class teacher introduced it, it turned out that this was the "Nursery Project" established by Tongji University in Huzhou No. 2 Middle School.
Wu Mingtao and his classmates attended many special science lectures at Tongji University when they were in high school. The pictures were taken in 2016 and 2017.
The Seedling Program is a special initiative of Tongji University to explore the connection between universities and middle schools to cultivate top innovative talents. In 2011, Tongji University began to explore and implement the Seedling Program, dedicated to building a platform for middle school students to cultivate interests and discover themselves, so that middle school students can understand university culture and university disciplines, enter university campuses, and get close to university professors. Over the past decade, the school's Seedling Program has been continuously reformed and upgraded. In 2019, the "Nursery Program 2.0" was released, and it is planned to be further upgraded to the "Nursery Program 3.0" in 2024.
Wu Mingtao recalled, "I still have a deep impression of this. Professors Yang Dongyuan, Zhao Hongduo, Shi Xiaofa and others from our college have given many lectures in my high school. It was these close contacts with university professors that broadened our horizons, helped us establish scientific thinking and guided us to think like scientists. At that time, my friends and I immediately formed a team and signed up for the 'Nursery Project'."
When he was in high school, Wu Mingtao and his classmates formed a team to participate in the "Nursery Project".
With the guidance of teachers from Tongji University and the support of high school physics teachers, Wu Mingtao's team used their spare time to try to transform and innovate the flagpole. Through repeated exploration and experiments, they discovered many mysteries of physics knowledge and developed a new flag-raising device. Their group project was successfully completed. Wu Mingtao said with emotion: "From then on, I wanted to apply to Tongji University even more!"
It was the persistence, enthusiasm and confidence inspired by participating in the "Seedling Program" that made Wu Mingtao work harder in high school, and eventually he realized his dream of studying at Tongji University and fulfilled his promise. This special fate made Wu Mingtao name the scholarship "Seedling Scholarship" of Huzhou No. 2 Middle School, so that the limited scholarship can play a greater value. Not long ago, at the donation ceremony, Wu Mingtao awarded certificates to three senior high school students of Huzhou No. 2 Middle School who received the "Seedling Scholarship", and the baton of inheritance has begun.

During his seven years at Tongji, Wu Mingtao had many roles. He was the chairman of the Tongji University Student Science and Technology Association, the deputy secretary of the undergraduate branch of the School of Transportation Engineering, a member of the school's Youth and Horse Training Program "Yin Fu Class", the captain of the school's football team, a member of the school's flag class, and the monitor of the graduate class... A young bud from the "nursery" grew into a big tree at Tongji.
"He has his own clear plans and ideas, strong self-control, and can achieve a good balanced development in academics and campus life," praised college counselor Lu Yurong.
Solid scientific research and learning also made him gain a lot in professional learning. He won the silver medal of the 13th "Challenge Cup" China College Students' Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, the second prize of the 4th National College Intelligent Transportation Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition, the third prize of the 18th China Graduate Mathematical Modeling Competition, and won many school-level scholarships and honors.
At the same time, with the guidance and help of his tutor and the research team, Wu Mingtao led his team to independently develop the "water-inspiration" system, which has been put into use in more than 10 airports and highways at home and abroad.
As the deputy secretary of the student party branch, Wu Mingtao combined party building work with transportation majors, took the lead in organizing the "Spark Special Line" project of Jiading No. 9 bus, selected and trained more than 100 volunteer students, and told the party history stories to passengers on Jiading No. 9 bus, so that the party history learning and the four histories propaganda can go out of the school classroom, enter the carriage, and enter the hearts of the people. In addition, he also went deep into the Chishui village in Guizhou to carry out teaching activities, not only imparting knowledge to the children, but also donating stationery to improve their learning environment; paying attention to the safety of local rural roads, and using his professional knowledge to solve practical problems for the local people.
Only by remembering the path we have come from can we know where to go. He, who is about to take up the post of selected trainee, said: "I don't know what the future will be like, but I will definitely be down-to-earth, make good use of my expertise, and work hard to move forward!"
