At the Central Nationalities Work Conference held 10 years ago, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out, "All ethnic groups should cultivate in their children the awareness of being a member of the Chinese nation. Children should not only know which ethnic group they are from. First of all, they should know that they are part of the Chinese nation."

In our country, all 56 ethnic groups are equal members of the Chinese nation, and together they constitute a community of shared future for the Chinese nation where each is part of the other and no one can do without the other.

At the Second Central Symposium on Xinjiang Work in 2014, General Secretary Xi Jinping clearly put forward the important proposition of establishing a "consciousness of community for the Chinese nation", which has become the "guideline" for the Party's ethnic work in the new era.

Development is the master key to solving various problems in ethnic minority areas. General Secretary Xi Jinping has always been concerned about the development issues in ethnic minority areas.

General Secretary Xi Jinping has repeatedly stressed that "to achieve a well-off society in an all-round way, no ethnic minority can be left behind, and no one can be left behind." Since the 18th CPC National Congress, General Secretary Xi Jinping has conducted in-depth research in ethnic minority areas to understand the situation, and personally planned and deployed and guided the poverty alleviation efforts. In recent years, all 28 ethnic minorities with small populations have achieved poverty alleviation as a whole, making a historic leap from poverty and backwardness to a well-off society, and the lives of ethnic minority people are becoming more and more promising.

On the road to common prosperity, ethnic minority areas in the border areas must not fall behind. On the morning of June 8, 2023, when listening to the work report of the Party Committee and the Government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized that from a national perspective, the most difficult task of promoting common prosperity for all people is in some ethnic minority areas in the border areas. He then prescribed a "prescription" to solve the problem, insisting on putting people at the center, paying more attention to protecting and improving people's livelihood in development, filling in the gaps in people's livelihood, and improving people's well-being, so that people of all ethnic groups can truly feel that the promotion of common prosperity is in action and around them.

The metaphor of "pomegranate seeds" was mentioned by General Secretary Xi Jinping when he heard it from a Uyghur fellow during his inspection in Xinjiang in 2014. Eight years later, in 2022, when General Secretary Xi Jinping visited Xinjiang again, he told people of all ethnic groups that "we should be like pomegranate seeds." Before he finished speaking, thousands of voices answered loudly and unanimously: "Hold together tightly."

The key to ethnic unity is to communicate with each other, to put yourself in others' shoes and exchange your heart with others. On September 30, 2015, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out when meeting with outstanding representatives of grassroots ethnic unity that "everyone should take action to communicate, cultivate and harmonize feelings together, and strive to create social conditions for people of all ethnic groups to live, study, work and enjoy together."

Building a multi-ethnic community is an important way to promote exchanges and integration among people of all ethnic groups. On June 7, 2021, General Secretary Xi Jinping emphasized during his inspection in Qinghai: "We must take the community as an important position for the creation of ethnic unity and progress, carry forward the good tradition of people of all ethnic groups holding hands and connecting hearts, and jointly build a harmonious home of ethnic unity and family." On June 19 this year, the General Secretary once again emphasized when listening to the work report of the Qinghai Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Government, "Promote the all-round integration and extensive exchanges and integration of all ethnic groups."

On December 14, 2023, General Secretary Xi Jinping pointed out during his inspection tour of Guangxi that "we must start from the grassroots communities, and through solid community construction, effective community services, and rich community activities, create a strong atmosphere of family ties among all ethnic groups and promote national unity even better."
