Recently, Shanghai Municipal Education Commission, Tongji University and Huangpu District People's Government jointly signed a framework agreement to cooperate in the construction of Tongji University Science and Technology Middle School, which is committed to building an internationally oriented municipal experimental and exemplary public high school featuring STEM education.

It is reported that under the guidance of the Ministry of Education, Tongji University Science and Technology Middle School will implement the "University-to-middle school connection and cultivation of top-notch innovative talents plan" based on China's national conditions and the research and practice needs of the UNESCO International STEM Education Institute settled in Shanghai, relying on Tongji University's advantages in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. Through the STEM curriculum setting of junior high school and high school, integrated, modular and small-class teaching, discussion-based and project-based learning methods, and future-oriented campus design, it will build a growth ladder for students to explore the peak of science and technology. This is also one of the important contents of the in-depth cooperation between Tongji University and Huangpu District to jointly build the Central Science and Technology Innovation Zone.

At the signing ceremony, the three parties jointly signed the "Agreement on Cooperation in Building Tongji University Science and Technology Middle School", and the district and the school jointly signed the "Memorandum of Cooperation".

Shen Wei, Secretary of the Party Committee of Shanghai Education and Health Work, said that the foundation of building a strong country in education lies in basic education. He hoped that Tongji University and Huangpu District would always stick to the original mission of running schools, focus on the characteristics of STEM education, undertake the educational practice and research tasks after the International STEM Education Research Institute lands in Shanghai, and actively explore the world-class top-notch innovative talent training model with Chinese characteristics.

Zheng Qinghua, deputy secretary of the Party Committee and president of Tongji University and academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, introduced the school-running philosophy and basic ideas of the Science and Technology Middle School. He said that the tripartite cooperation in building the Tongji University Science and Technology Middle School requires a new school-running philosophy and innovative mechanism. Tongji University has recently established a STEM education think tank and a future education research institute, hoping that the three parties will work together to promote the early implementation of the Science and Technology Middle School.
