Why is the first Chinese representative office opened in Shanghai this year?, This Singapore law firm with over 120 years of history
On the morning of September 5th, the International Forum on Legal Services, hosted by the Ministry of Justice and hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice and the Shanghai Institute of Political Science and Law, was successfully held in Shanghai. The forum theme is "Deepening Legal Service Cooperation to Assist Regional Economic and Trade Development", divided into two topics: "Legal Services and Economic and Trade Cooperation" and "Using Modern Technology to Promote Modernization of Legal Services".
According to Wang Wenhui, Chief Representative of the Shanghai Representative Office of Anson Law Firm in Singapore, Anson Law Firm was founded in 1902 and has a history of over 120 years. It is one of the largest and leading law firms in Singapore and Southeast Asia. Apart from the Singapore headquarters, we have offices in Malaysia, Vietnam, Indonesia, and Myanmar, and have close and long-term partners in other Southeast Asian countries; More than 650 lawyers provide clients with comprehensive and one-stop professional legal services. This year, the law firm obtained approval from the Chinese Ministry of Justice to open Ansheng's first representative office in China in Shanghai.
Wang Wenhui said that over the years, China and Singapore have strengthened trade and investment cooperation, shared opportunities, and achieved mutual benefit. Firstly, the trade between the two countries is interconnected. Since 2013, China has been Singapore's largest trading partner, and Singapore is China's largest source of foreign investment. China and ASEAN are each other's largest trading partners. With the promotion of the 3.0 version of the China ASEAN Free Trade Area and the full implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement, trade and investment between China and Singapore/ASEAN will reach a new peak.
Secondly, the infrastructure of the two countries is interconnected. The New International Land Sea Trade Corridor connects western China with more than 119 countries and regions including ASEAN, saving time and costs in goods and logistics. The "China Singapore Strategic Connectivity Demonstration Project" will, under the "the Belt and Road" initiative, open a more direct trade channel connecting western China and Southeast Asia in key areas such as financial services, aviation, transportation logistics, information and communication technology. Once again, the two countries are financially interconnected. China and Singapore have signed a memorandum of understanding to strengthen cooperation in green development and digital economy, further enhancing their financial and capital market cooperation.
"In this context, the law plays a crucial role in supporting regional cooperation and development." Wang Wenhui said that the rule of law creates a stable and predictable framework for regional interaction by formulating rules, regulating rights and obligations, coordinating expectations, protecting parties, minimizing risks, and managing disputes, thereby helping to achieve the ultimate goal of promoting economic and trade activities.
"Although our China representative office is a brand new business organization, we have a professional team of senior lawyers who are well aware of the needs of Chinese customers, familiar with the Chinese market and international market practices, and proficient in both Chinese and English. Wang Wenhui said that through this new platform, they will be closer to the Chinese market, provide more efficient and fast services for Chinese customers, and are committed to assisting Chinese enterprises to directly enter the Singapore and Southeast Asian markets, contributing to the continuously strengthening strategic cooperation and increasingly frequent economic and trade exchanges between China and Southeast Asian countries.".
