Is Changzhou the fourth largest city in the new energy industry in China? Changzhou | Expo | Industry
On the 19th, the World New Energy Expo opened in Changzhou, Jiangsu.
At the event, Hu Run, Chairman and Chief Research Officer of Hurun Baifu, released the "2023 Hurun China New Energy Industry Agglomeration City List". Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Suzhou ranked in the top 3, while Beijing and Changzhou tied for 4th place. Guangzhou, Wuhan, Chengdu, Tianjin, and Hefei ranked 6th to 10th.
Shenzhen and Shanghai are in the top two, and the reason is not difficult to find. According to Hurun, on the one hand, the strong urban strength of the two regions is a guarantee, and on the other hand, it is related to local core enterprises, such as BYD in Shenzhen and Tesla factories in Shanghai. New energy vehicles are a system level product that can drive a large number of upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain. Therefore, companies like Tesla and BYD contribute far more to cities than just car production.
Looking at the top 50 Chinese cities with the highest concentration of new energy industry on the list, Jiangsu, located in the Yangtze River Delta region, is the province with the highest concentration of new energy, with a total of 10 cities on the list. One province accounts for one-fifth of the entire list, and two of the top five cities are Suzhou, ranked third, and Changzhou, ranked fourth. In November last year, Hurun released the "2022 Hurun China New Energy Industry Agglomeration City List" in Changzhou. This was the first time Hurun Research Institute released this list. At that time, Changzhou ranked fifth on the list, but this year it has risen by one place. At the same time, consistent with last year, Changzhou's new energy investment heat aggregation rate has remained the first in the country.
Hurun mentioned that in this year's ranking, Changzhou is not only the only second tier city in the top ten, but more importantly, it continues to hold the first place in investment heat concentration, reflecting the city's great development potential in the field of new energy. Now, Changzhou not only has headquarters type chain owners such as China Innovation Aviation, Honeycomb Energy, and Trina Solar, but also over 70% of domestic segmented chain owners such as CATL, Ideal, BYD, Betray, and Xingyuan Materials have established manufacturing bases and research and development institutions in Changzhou. For example, CATL's largest production base in the Yangtze River Delta region is located in Changzhou, and Ideal Automobile's largest production and manufacturing base in the country is also located in Changzhou. At present, Changzhou has formed an industrial ecological loop of "power generation, storage, transportation, and research", with the production and sales of complete vehicles and power batteries accounting for half of the entire Jiangsu Province. Every 10 new energy vehicles worldwide are equipped with "Changzhou made" batteries.
In 2022, Changzhou proposed the goal of building a "new energy city", with a scale of 510 billion yuan for the new energy industry and a total output of 340000 new energy vehicles. At the beginning of this year, Changzhou designated the "First Session of the New Year" as the promotion conference for the construction of the new energy capital, and launched ten new energy capital policies, comprehensively promoting the closed-loop development of the "energy generation, storage, and transportation" industry. Since the beginning of this year, the development momentum of Changzhou's new energy industry has been good, with a completed output value of 271.1 billion yuan from January to May, an increase of 25.1%; The production of new energy vehicles reached 216600 units, an increase of 137.5%. During the same period, Changzhou attracted 114 new energy projects to settle down. At the World New Energy Expo, Chen Jinhu, Secretary of the Changzhou Municipal Party Committee, stated that the scale of Changzhou's new energy industry will exceed 650 billion yuan this year, and the total production of new energy vehicles is expected to exceed 700000. The goal is to achieve a new energy industry output value and market value of "two trillion yuan" by 2025.
