Police in many places have issued warnings not to scan codes or participate in brushing orders. But many citizens are confused: why do they receive such products if they have not consumed them online? How was personal information leaked? The investigation conducted by the Shanghai debunking platform found that this is related to the massive blind delivery of parcels by fraudsters.
Blind box express delivery itself is blind shipping
Recently, the reporter received a package containing a water cup and a scratch lottery ticket, with a prompt on the page saying "Merchant anniversary feedback, WeChat QR code redemption". Scan the QR code on the lottery and the system will prompt "The QR code has been disabled due to illegal content.". Subsequently, the reporter dialed the sender's phone number on the delivery note, but the number kept indicating a busy tone and was never connected.
Blind box express delivery may include: scratch lottery tickets, fictional "merchant thank-you letters", water bottles, phone holders, small notebooks and other cheap gifts.
Similar to the journalist's experience, a reader received a package containing a scratch lottery ticket and a thank-you letter from the merchant, but did not indicate which merchant it was. When scanning the QR code on the lottery ticket, the system also prompted "The security of the webpage cannot be confirmed, please visit with caution.".
After scanning the QR code, a prompt appears in the system, indicating that the platform has warned or blocked the QR code suspected of fraud.
From the scan results, it can be seen that the police and platform have taken action against the QR codes suspected of fraud to prevent consumers from scanning the codes and joining the group. Because once you join the group, you may fall into traps such as "brushing orders and cashing back" constructed by fraudsters, until you scam the victim's account information and money.
In response to the question raised by some readers, "Why did you receive the package if you haven't consumed it before?", the answer can be found on the delivery form of this type of "blind box trap": From the packages received by readers, some have complete names and addresses, but some only fill in the corresponding address information.
For the former, it cannot be ruled out that personal information leakage occurred during online shopping or express delivery in the past, and criminals obtained personal information through gray industries.
For the latter, it shows that many express deliveries are the result of fraudsters blindly sending them - because there is no recipient's address information that is publicly searchable, fraudsters use a large number of blind deliveries to filter out customers who are curious about the "thank you activity" and then engage in fraud. Some couriers have also stated that they have recently sent similar packages to every household in the communities they serve.
Online shopping scams have tricks, and anti fraud guidelines should be kept in mind
According to the survey, the recent "blind box express" includes different products such as mobile phone racks, small notebooks, plastic water cups, etc. The fake platforms include "Taobao Merchant Alliance", "Meituan Merchant Alliance", "Alipay Customer Service", etc. The flags are "feedback", "red envelope gift", "anniversary celebration", etc. Their ultimate goal is to point to telecommunications fraud - whether it's a "small gift" or a scratch card included in the package, there will be a QR code. Once the scammers scan the code to join the group, they will disguise themselves as "customer service" and use small rebates to give users the sweetness of "brushing orders", and then induce users to download certain apps or go to their designated websites for recharging, in order to complete large brushing orders and obtain high rebates. If users believe it to be true, they will lose everything.
In response to the above scams, police in multiple regions and impersonated platforms have repeatedly issued safety reminders. The relevant platforms are even more clear that they have never conducted similar feedback gift activities, nor will they contact users through customer service to request group membership or distribute red envelopes.
It can be seen that as long as one does not trust or scan the code, such scams can be avoided. In daily life, we should also pay attention to protecting personal information and not easily disclose our name, ID number, telephone number, delivery address, bank account, etc. When receiving unfamiliar express delivery, consumers can verify their online shopping information; If it does not match the online shopping information, treat the relevant products with caution, as "pie will not fall from the sky.".
