Having won gold medals in all three breaststroke events, Qin Haiyang fulfilled his promise and successfully advanced to the world's "New Frog King" at the Fukuoka Swimming World Championships.

Although she is a child from Hunan, Qin Haiyang came to Shanghai from the age of 9. Here, he met two "Bo Le" figures in the Shanghai swimming industry, and then went global from here, writing a new chapter in Chinese swimming.

Shanghai is the warmest home for Qin Haiyang because of its beloved coaches, classmates and teachers.

Coach Ning Zetao Ye Jin leads the way

On May 17, 1999, Qin Haiyang was born in Changde City, Hunan Province. At the age of 3, he moved to Zhuzhou with his parents. At the age of 5 and a half, he began learning to swim. At the age of 9, Qin Haiyang went from Hunan to Minhang District Youth Sports School in Shanghai. One year later, he was selected to join the Navy swimming team for trial training. Due to his young age, he was not suitable for professional training. Qin Haiyang once made several moves in and out of the team, but in the end, he persisted.

In 2014, Qin Haiyang studied under coach Ye Jin. 67 year old Ye Jin is the coach of the Navy Swimming Team and has trained famous swimmers like Qi Hui and Ning Zetao. Most people know that he is because of Ning Zetao, but in fact, Qi Hui is her most proud disciple. She is good at training breaststroke and medley swimmers, and Qin Haiyang's appearance is not accidental.

With his own efforts and the guidance of his coach, Qin Haiyang's performance has improved by leaps and bounds since then, and he has begun to stand out.

In the early days, when Qin Haiyang first emerged in national competitions, his main events were the longer distance 200 meter breaststroke and the 200 meter individual medley. Qin Haiyang won his first 200 meter breaststroke championship at the National Championships in the second half of 2016. In 2017, at the 13th National Games, he won the men's 200 meter breaststroke championship with a time of 2 minutes and 07.35 seconds, breaking the national record. "I didn't expect to break the national record, I want to bring a breakthrough to the Chinese men's breaststroke." This is the goal set by an 18-year-old boy for himself.

Under the guidance of meritorious coach Cui Dengrong

Winning the 200 meter breaststroke and breaking the world record, Qin Haiyang's first embrace was his mentor Cui Denrong.

In 2022, Qin Haiyang came to the Shanghai team and studied under Cui Dengrong. Cui Denrong is also Zhang Yufei's coach.

Both Zhang Yufei and the previous Shanghai athlete Lu Ying have made significant improvements in their technical skills during the breakthrough period, thanks to the training of Cui Denrong. For Qin Haiyang, Cui Dengrong also chose to start with technology.

Cui Denrong has strengthened Qin Haiyang's strength training, and his training plan on core muscle groups has also been more refined. At the same time, Cui Denrong's team also invited a synchronized swimming coach to help the team members further enhance their core strength.

Since emerging in 2017 and repeatedly rewriting world youth records, Qin Haiyang has stepped onto the highest podium of the World Championships with the help of Cui Denrong.

Based on his potential and the international competitiveness of the 100 meter and 200 meter breaststroke, in recent years, Qin Haiyang has focused on shorter distance breaststroke events, focusing on the 100 meter Olympic event and also taking into account the unique 50 meter breaststroke of the World Championships. This change has brought very good results.

In a previous interview, Qin Haiyang also attributed the improvement in grades to "scientific training". "The previous training was not as detailed, and now the small and large muscle groups are trained separately." At the same time, Qin Haiyang also mentioned his change in mentality, "Now I have become more familiar. In the past, my attitude towards swimming was more like treating work, but now I completely enjoy this sport and I am very happy."

Scholarship recipients of Tongji University

There is no doubt that Qin Haiyang has become the focus of the world media at this World Championships. In the post match interview, Qin Haiyang's fluent and confident English expression made people exclaim: this is the charm of the new generation of Chinese university athletes.

In fact, outside the swimming pool, Qin Haiyang is also a true "academic powerhouse".

I have received the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Scholarship from Tongji University and ranked among the top three in my class. Due to my excellent academic performance, I am eligible for graduate recommendation. At present, Qin Haiyang has just finished his undergraduate studies at the School of Economics and Management of Tongji University and is about to be admitted to the Physical Education Department of Tongji University for further studies.

At Tongji University, Qin Haiyang, who has a sunny image and excellent professional performance, has become a role model for everyone. He once received the Outstanding Student Scholarship during his undergraduate studies and shared his struggle stories with his younger students at the Outstanding Student Report Conference. This special ideological and political class won full applause.

On weekdays, the training and competition tasks are very heavy, but Qin Haiyang will seize every opportunity to learn according to every opportunity. The school teachers will also tailor it for him and help him with his cooking. In the eyes of Qin Haiyang, he is a national team athlete and will have more opportunities to compete and communicate with outstanding athletes around the world in the future. Therefore, he always takes every opportunity to practice English. At this World Championships, his English with his classmate Zhang Yufei received praise from all parties.
