Baidu Group Senior Vice President Liang Zhixiang: What opportunities and changes does the big model bring to legal services?
On the morning of September 5th, the International Forum on Legal Services, hosted by the Ministry of Justice and hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Bureau of Justice and the Shanghai Institute of Political Science and Law, was successfully held in Shanghai. The forum theme is "Deepening Legal Service Cooperation to Assist Regional Economic and Trade Development", divided into two topics: "Legal Services and Economic and Trade Cooperation" and "Using Modern Technology to Promote Modernization of Legal Services".
Liang Zhixiang, Senior Vice President of Baidu Group and Director of the Network and High tech Legal Professional Committee of the All China Lawyers Association, introduced the opportunities and changes brought by the big model to the legal service industry.
In his view, the big model has brought about an "efficiency revolution" in legal services. In the past, lawyers often spent a lot of time and energy searching for laws, organizing documents, and writing documents, but now there have been significant changes. He believes that the process of transformation can be seen as two stages - the first stage is the Internet. At this stage, lawyers still need to raise legal issues, and then search for relevant laws and cases through search engines. The second stage is AIization, where lawyers no longer need to think about what legal issues are, let alone search for complex knowledge. The big model itself can understand relevant facts and automatically identify legal issues, thereby providing the best solution. After being freed from tedious legal search work, lawyers can have more time and energy to engage in in-depth interactions with clients, providing more personalized support for each client.
In addition, he believes that big models can stimulate a "knowledge revolution" in legal services, enabling legal service providers to have interdisciplinary learning abilities. He gave an example of an energy company planning to build a wind power plant, which not only involves professional knowledge in energy and electricity, but also includes legal knowledge such as land use rights, environmental laws, and construction regulations. In this case, lawyers can use large models for fast and accurate legal research. A large model can search and analyze a large number of documents in a short period of time, integrate cross domain knowledge, and form comprehensive and professional preliminary legal advice.

He also believes that the big model has found "new space for cross-border cooperation" in legal services. In the process of globalization, economy, technology, and other aspects are becoming increasingly integrated, but there are still cultural and regional differences in laws among countries. For example, when a multinational company faces a new international trade agreement, it needs to find legal experts from different regions to understand business rules, which is very complex and time-consuming. The existence of large models greatly simplifies this process. Previously, manual work may have taken several weeks, but large models can automatically analyze and interpret these new regulations in a short period of time, and implement them in contract drafting work. The automation translation and legal knowledge graph technologies brought by artificial intelligence also enable lawyers to quickly and accurately understand the legal provisions of different countries, and provide accurate and comprehensive legal advice to clients from different countries. The new technology allows lawyer services to no longer be limited by regional, cultural, and legal system differences, making the space for legal services more extensive.
