Creating a 24-hour open park art museum, Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Exhibition opens on the 20th of this month
The reporter learned from Jing'an District today that the 7th "China Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Exhibition" will be open to citizens and tourists at Jing'an Sculpture Park on September 20th. During the exhibition, 42 works from 28 artists from 16 countries will be exhibited at Jing'an Sculpture Park, creating a "24-hour open park art museum".
The Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Exhibition is rooted in the core area of Shanghai's historical and cultural heritage - Jing'an District. It is presented in the form of a biennial exhibition and has now become a well-known public art and cultural brand in China and Shanghai. Since 2010, the Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Exhibition has undergone the evolution of "urban fantasy, urban light, urban home, urban innovation, and urban boundaryless". It tells a decade long story of public art in Jing'an and Shanghai. Since 2020, the Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Exhibition has launched a new decade of theme - the "Space" series, interpreting the perspective from the city to space, from macro to micro, starting from the previous "Space Reconstruction".
This year's Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Exhibition takes "spatial evolution" as the theme, actively responding to the opening and full-time opening of the Jing'an Sculpture Park wall. It selects heavyweight works from international masters and high-level works from domestic artists, vividly interpreting the changes in time and space dimensions after the opening of the Jing'an Sculpture Park wall, and creating a new urban image card of "24-hour open park art museum".
This exhibition will also extend to communities and neighborhoods, linking with Daning Jiuguang Center, Guotai Jun'an Green Space, Pengpu New Village, Shanghai Suhewan MixC World, Sanquan Park, Shixi Middle School, Zhenning Vegetable Market, CITIC Taifu Square, Zhangyuan, etc., to customize a city stroll guide for seeking art and tranquility. Let citizens and tourists experience a one-day art journey that best represents Shanghai and Jing'an.

The works at this sculpture exhibition continue to be of high standard and high quality, with multiple renowned artists participating in the exhibition. For example, Katinka Burke, a German sculptor and visual artist who was nominated for the Marcel Duchamp Prize, the most important contemporary art award in France, brought his work "World Bridge", continuing his simple and profound creative philosophy. A spiral bridge passes through a tree, inviting people to explore the secret language between architecture and nature from different angles and times, and discover the same dream in the same world.
Spanish artist Juan Garizabo, who has participated in the Venice Biennale and the Chicago Art Fair, is renowned worldwide for creating a commemorative public sculpture called "City Memory". This time, Juan Garizabo brought the work "Eternal Terrace", which outlines the slices of architecture with a visual volume of up to 20 meters, calling out people's emotions and memories about the city and life through the work.
French avant-garde artist Jean Marie Apri brought his work "Horizon", which was recently exhibited at the Basel Art Exhibition in Switzerland. With its imaginative artistic expression, it takes people into an extraordinary and poetic world.
The Shanghai Jing'an International Sculpture Exhibition is jointly hosted by the Jing'an District People's Government and the Municipal Planning and Natural Resources Bureau. The exhibition will continue until the end of this year.
