Promoting interconnectivity of financial infrastructure, Mayor of Shanghai meets with Mayor of London Financial City
Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng met with the London Financial City Mayor Liang Yousi and his delegation today.
Gong Zheng said that Shanghai and the City of London had established friendly exchange relations as early as 1996, formed a close cooperation and exchange mechanism, and carried out extensive cooperation in areas such as financial investment and services, achieving positive results. The City of London is a leading global financial, commercial, and economic center. Shanghai is the largest economic center city in China, and regards finance as one of the most important functions of the city. It is accelerating the construction of a world-class international financial center. We are willing to work hand in hand with the City of London to cooperate in asset management, green finance, fintech, financial openness, and other areas, learn from advanced concepts, and promote mutually beneficial and win-win development. Welcome British financial institutions to increase their layout, expand their business, and innovate in Shanghai, jointly promote the optimization of financial services, improve financial efficiency, ensure financial security, support green and low-carbon transformation, promote financial infrastructure connectivity, and enhance the convenience level of cross-border investment and financing.
Liang Yousi said that finance has always been London's core competitive advantage, and he is pleased to see more and more Chinese financial institutions coming to London to conduct business. The economic growth in Shanghai is impressive, and the focus of the construction of the Shanghai International Financial Center is well matched with the advantages of the City of London. We have many common concerns and great potential for cooperation. We hope to closely cooperate in the fields of green finance and sustainable finance, jointly carry out financial technology innovation, deepen the Shanghai London Stock Connect mechanism, and continue to promote financial openness.
