In August 2009, Wang Haiyan returned to her hometown from Shanghai to start a business and develop an embroidery intangible cultural heritage project in her hometown of Xiqin. When it comes to the original intention of entrepreneurship, Wang Haiyan said that on the one hand, she wants to take care of the elderly and children who are left behind at home, and on the other hand, she also wants to use her computer embroidery skills to support the development of her hometown.
"Machine embroidery, combined with manual sewing, greatly improves production efficiency. Embroidered products produced in bulk are eventually promoted and sold through e-commerce platforms." Wang Haiyan said that over the past decade, her cooperative has created more than 500 jobs and provided employment opportunities for many left behind women in the village, generating an annual income of over 12 million yuan.
At present, embroidery has become an important industry for the development of courtyard economy in Qianyang County. The town and village adopt the model of "association+cooperative+embroidery girl", guiding 21 embroidery cooperatives and driving 12000 women to work and start businesses at their doorstep. In 2022, more than 6.8 million products were sold, with a production value of 86 million yuan and a per capita income increase of over 3500 yuan.
62 year old Li Huilian has been doing manual embroidery for over 50 years. She said that under her mother's influence, she fell in love with embroidery from the age of 8. In 2008, with the support of relevant departments, Li Huilian established the Qianyang County Sunbird Craft Professional Cooperative, which promoted low-income families and left behind women in the surrounding areas to engage in embroidery craft production.
Li Huilian told reporters that the cooperative does not have strict commuting hours. Embroiderers come to collect materials when they have time, go home to sew, and pay back the labor cost after completion. Both middle-aged and elderly people have piece rate wages ranging from a few hundred yuan to three to four thousand yuan.
