Without leaving Shanghai to listen to the authentic Vienna symphony, another Vienna orchestra has arrived
"In Europe, almost no city is as passionate about pursuing cultural life as Vienna," Austrian writer Zweig once described in "Yesterday's World. In September, as the autumn season deepens, another symphony orchestra from Vienna, the Vienna Concert Orchestra, will join hands with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra's oboe player Sebastian Brett to perform at the Shanghai Oriental Art Center. This year marks the 190th anniversary of the birth of German musician Brahms. At a concert on September 26th, the Vienna Concert Orchestra will bring the great musician who has lived in Vienna for half of his life, his First Symphony.

The Vienna Concert Orchestra was founded in 1987, rooted in the tradition of Viennese classical music. At the same time, the orchestra has built a bridge to contemporary music, performing a wide range of works from Viennese classical composers to contemporary music. Since its establishment, the band has successfully brought global premieres of nearly 20 works by contemporary Austrian composers. As a cultural ambassador of Austria, the band not only conducts tours in Asia and North America, but also enjoys popular performances at important music festivals and concert halls in Europe. Since 1993, the band has been hosting a series of concerts featuring contemporary Austrian composers in the Golden Hall of Vienna Music. At the Shanghai concert, the orchestra will perform a set of classic classical symphonic works that have been rarely performed in recent years, including Schubert's "Rosamund Overture", Mozart's "oboe concerto", Bellini's "oboe and String Concerto in E-flat major", and Brahms' "First Symphony".

That night's heavyweight piece - Brahms' First Symphony - was known as the "Tenth Symphony" by the world. The so-called "Tenth Symphony" refers to this piece continuing Beethoven's "Immortal Nine Symphonies" and becoming the tenth famous symphony. Brahms once aspired to write works that could rival the "Immortal Nine Symphonies". This work is full of interweaving emotions such as struggle, worry, depression, disappointment, and joy. It is interesting that a certain theme in the last movement of Brahms' Symphony No. 1 is very similar to the melody of Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 in D minor, which deserves the reputation of Symphony No. 10.

This concert also specially invited Sebastian Brett, an oboe player from the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, to assist. Sebastian Brett was born in 1998, 2019. At the age of only 21, he was appointed as the chief oboe of the Vienna State Opera and joined the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in 2022. Sebastian has extensive experience in orchestras and chamber music, and has collaborated with the Vienna Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, the Beethoven Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Vienna People's Opera House. As a soloist, he has collaborated with the Tyrol State Youth Orchestra, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra, and the Baden Beethoven Philharmonic Orchestra to perform, and made appearances at the Schubert Hall in 2018, the Berio Hall in 2020, and the Mozart Hall in Vienna in 2022.
Sebastian Brett will bring two classic oboe pieces to the venue - Mozart's "C Major oboe Concerto" and Bellini's "E flat major oboe and String Concerto". Mozart's oboe concerto in C major holds an important position in the history of wind concertos. It is not only one of the fixed must play pieces at the highest stage of the world oboe competition, but also the only oboe concerto composed by Mozart throughout his life, known as a must listen piece for oboe enthusiasts.
