As the first event of the 2023 Minhang Cultural and Art Festival, the "Five Senses Workshop" series of the "Better Life" art season has recently made its debut at the Shanghai style art museum. The theme of this year's Minhang Cultural and Art Festival is "Art Minhang, Shanghai West District", which will continue until January next year. 100 cultural activities, including cultural performances, cultural exhibitions, traditional festivals, spatial art, and aesthetic education classes, will gradually meet with the citizens. International celebrities, masterpieces, and groups, as well as their first exhibition and debut projects, will gather on the cultural stage of Minhang.
On the basis of introducing performance resources from the Shanghai International Art Festival in China, Minhang District collaborated with Shanghai People's Broadcasting Station and Minhang Art Venue Alliance to revitalize regional cultural resources during this art festival. Among them, Minhang District launched the "Better Life" art season in conjunction with Shanghai Radio Classics 947 music frequency. In Minhang Cultural Park, Minhang Museum, Shanghai Style Art Museum and other cultural spaces and venues, different art forms such as cultural and museum boutiques, China-Chic Intangible Cultural Heritage, and art exhibitions were mixed according to local conditions, and a series of brand activities such as "Five Senses Workshop", "Music Can Be Exhibited", "Courtyard Concert", and "New Year Concert" were carried out to taste the poems hidden in Minhang city and the distance.
The first event of the "Five Senses Workshop" focuses on the sense of smell, leading citizens to explore "Chinese traditional aromatherapy culture.". Chinese traditional incense has a long history, starting from the Xia and Shang dynasties, completing in the Qin and Han dynasties, and flourishing in the Ming and Qing dynasties. Traditional Chinese medicine incense therapy is the most important part of ancient incense use, and is a comprehensive applied technology discipline with Chinese traditional characteristics.

In the multifunctional hall on the second floor of the Shanghai Style Art Museum, Wang Yang, the inheritor of the intangible cultural heritage of "Traditional Chinese Medicine Fragrance Preparation Techniques" in Xuhui District, popularized the history of Chinese fragrance culture to the public. The on-site audience not only tasted the fragrance, but also experienced the production of sachets firsthand. Wang Yang said, "Aroma can directly affect a person's essence and spirit. I hope everyone has a sensory understanding of this and can inherit and promote this culture."
The second workshop that followed focused on hearing, with Sheng and Guqin performers, as well as Associate Professor Zhong Zhiyue from the Department of Ethnic Music at Shanghai Conservatory of Music, bringing the theme activity of "Entering Intangible Cultural Heritage and Guqin". The Chinese guqin culture has a long history, and the sound of the guqin is both elegant and clear, with an elegant meaning. From ancient Chinese musical instruments known as the "Eight Tones" to the cultivation of literati and scholars through qin, chess, calligraphy, and painting, Zhong Zhiyue not only explained the cultural history of the guqin, but also introduced the structure of each part while holding the guqin, and performed the famous guqin song "Flowing Water" on site.

"I have never participated in a similar workshop before, and I am very interested in seeing the experience of playing the guqin for the first time. The main lecturer is very professional, who can not only listen to the explanation of guqin knowledge but also experience the performance of the guqin. Therefore, I want to take my children to experience it together. They planted the seeds of traditional Chinese music when they were young." Mr. Ma, a citizen, introduced that this time a family of four signed up for this workshop.

It is reported that after the opening of the Minhang Cultural and Art Festival in 2023, from October 4th to 6th, the National Music Exhibition Hall of the Minhang Museum will hold a theme activity of "Music Exhibitable: National Music Exhibition" for three consecutive days. Combining the characteristics of the exhibits in the exhibition hall, the performance of ethnic instruments will be integrated, allowing history to "come to life" in the form of music, creating a "step by step" style immersive folk music listening experience. This is also a special design and music adaptation by the Ethnic Music Department of Shanghai Conservatory of Music and the Classic 947, based on the exhibits of the Minhang District Museum. In the following months, the Shanghai style art museum will also hold art education lectures, courtyard concerts, five senses workshops, 24 solar terms audio-visual concerts, New Year's concerts and other activities; Minhang Cultural Park will welcome the new Autumn Eight Scenic Citywalk event.
