"Social Art Education" creates a boundaryless art education classroom and carries out over 4400 public art education sessions
This year, "creating 100 'social art education' classrooms and launching 5000 art popularization education activities" has been listed as a practical project for the private sector in Shanghai. The establishment of the "Social Art Education" classroom is based on the strength of professional institutions, aimed at citizens, and encourages professional cultural institutions to better play their role in public art education. Driven by the "Social Art Education" classroom, professional art venues and institutions in the city actively participated, and as of the end of August, more than 4400 themed, series, and high-quality public art popularization education activities were planned and carried out.
Recently, the Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism has launched the second batch of "Social Art Education Classrooms". At this point, 113 well-known professional cultural venues and institutions in Shanghai, including the Shanghai Museum, the Chinese Art Palace, the Shanghai Grand Theatre, the Shanghai Ballet, and the Shanghai Broadcasting Art Center, have become "social aesthetic education classrooms".

This year, with a batch of heavyweight performances and exhibitions being held, a group of state-owned flagship institutions have planned a series of rich and distinctive guided activities centered around the project. Many activities, like performances and exhibitions, are difficult to obtain a single ticket, allowing more citizens to get used to "watching with preparation".

Shanghai Symphony Orchestra's "Blue Bird Plan"
The Shanghai Museum's phenomenal exhibition "From Botticelli to Van Gogh - National Gallery Collection Exhibition" attracted over 420000 visitors. Around the grand exhibition, multiple social art education activities were launched before and after the exhibition, which lasted from the first two months of the exhibition to the end. The guiding brand of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra is called "Prepared Listening". Before attending the concert in the evening, you can first understand the relevant background knowledge through online explanations to better understand the content of the work. "The Shanghai Symphony Orchestra is the first professional symphony orchestra in China to establish an education department. It conducts public and educational activities, gets closer to the public, and allows everyone to understand and appreciate the symphony, so that they can enjoy it in the music hall." said He Dageng, member of the Shanghai Symphony Orchestra Executive Committee.

The "Art Museum Live Teaching Course" series of courses is a public education characteristic course launched by the China Art Palace for students of all ages in primary and secondary schools throughout the city and the whole society, with art museums as the primary teaching venue.
This year, the China Art Palace has held 19 exhibitions, which have been comprehensively upgraded in terms of collection quality, curation level, and exhibition format. In the view of Wang Yichuan, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of the China Art Palace, social aesthetic education not only refers to allowing the audience to participate in public education activities, but also to promoting social aesthetic education by allowing the audience to enter art venues and visit exhibitions. The audience can feel the power of the original work and the joy of art during the exhibition process, bringing about the improvement of personal aesthetic and humanistic literacy, which is the purpose of art museums pursuing aesthetic education. On the basis of existing projects, the China Art Palace has created a series of public education brands, including "Art Museum Live Teaching Courses", "Art in the Community", "Original Work Living Room" Art Salon, and the upcoming "Chinese Art Master Talk" to better serve the public's appreciation needs.

Almost every art venue and institution has their own unique brand aesthetic education projects. The West Coast Art Museum has created three series of brand aesthetic education products: "bookshelves," "chairs," and "experimental platforms." Among them, the Pompidou Workshop has only held 114 events in the first half of the year, forming a fixed audience. The "Dui Dui Dui Bookstore" at the Shanghai Museum of Contemporary Art is not only a carrier of aesthetic education in the museum, but also an extended experience and interpretation space for exhibitions, deeply loved by art enthusiasts and families.

This year, the Shanghai Museum of History has launched 76 social art education activities, leading participants to witness the development of Shanghai city, the inheritance of Shanghai style culture, and the connection of the Jiangnan cultural circle from different perspectives. Zhou Qunhua, the director of the Shanghai Museum of History, believes that "beauty" is also a reflection of urban charm. This summer, Shangli Museum held a wonderful museum night event, attracting young people to enter the museum at night and harvest the beauty of history and culture in an interactive and experiential form. The upcoming "Memory -20th Century brooch art exhibition" on September 26th showcases the beauty of fashion and life through 20th century brooch art, and many visitors from other places have left messages expressing their desire to visit. Shangli Bo will also collaborate with the brooch exhibition to organize retro cycling activities. Visitors who participate in cycling can not only check in and appreciate the beauty of Shanghai's cultural and romantic streets and old buildings, but also become the first batch of VIP visitors, spreading their insights into beauty during cycling.

This year, many "social art education" classrooms have launched new art education projects or advanced versions of classic art education brands. On the day of the launch of the Social Art Education Project, the China Art Palace simultaneously launched the "Art Museum Live Teaching Course". Through an innovative cooperation model of museum school linkage and joint planning, courses were designed to meet the needs of students of different grades and characteristics, covering different forms such as guidance, practice, and expansion. Since the launch of the project, a total of 68 batches and 3298 students from Hongkou, Huangpu, Jing'an, Pudong, and Minhang districts have entered the Art Palace to participate in the course. At the end of the year, the Chinese Art Palace will also hold an art exhibition in the museum for teachers and students who participate in the course, further showcasing and summarizing the results of the course.

In combination with the social art education project, many venues break physical boundaries and use art to illuminate every corner of the city, from bounded to unbounded, in addition to traditional ways such as entering communities, schools, and commercial buildings, entering urban life. Breaking boundaries and integrating between different art venues and forms has become a trend. On the day of the launch of this year's Citizen Culture Festival, a senior guide from the West Coast Art Museum walked into the Xujiahui Academy, designed by fellow architect David Shipfield, to bring readers the art guide course of the museum's permanent exhibition "The Sound of All Things". Through the methods of "exhibition expansion reading" and "reading opening exhibitions", the museum established a link between exhibitions and books. This year's Shanghai Grand Theatre Celebration Season Special Edition Experience Day 300FUN Art Market is themed "Hello, Goddess of Art" and invites cultural venues and art institutions such as Shanghai Museum, Shanghai Opera House, Shanghai Ballet, Shanghai Ethnic Orchestra, Shanghai Cultural Square, Pudong Art Museum, YOUNG Theater, Shanghai West Bank Grand Theatre, Meng Jinghui Drama Studio, SMGLIVE, etc. to participate. Different cultures and arts collide to create different sparks.
The "Social Art Education" program has stimulated the initiative of art education in various professional art venues, and various professional institutions have put forward more expectations for the future. "The Shanghai Jiao Tong Concert Hall has over 1200 seats, and most performances can be sold out. However, compared to the proportion of audiences listening to concerts in Japan and Europe, we still have a long way to go. Professional institutions are also important beneficiaries of participating in social art education." He Dageng sighed, "Art education requires time incubation, and how to maintain it effectively is more meaningful than increasing the number of activities.". "Aesthetic education brings us closer to the audience and also cultivates the next generation of audiences and performers."

"Social art education is a long-term task, and we hope to attract more professional venues to join through the demonstration and leading role of 113 companies." Shi Xiaofeng, the person in charge of the practical project team of the Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and the director of the activity department of the Municipal Qunyi Art Museum, introduced that the current public art popularization education is rich and diverse. In the future, we hope to continue to deepen the cultivation of key art education projects, develop innovative art education projects, expand more segmented audience groups, plan more systematic art education projects, shape recognizable art education brands, and let social art education resources benefit more people under the guidance of "Social art education".
