Li Shujian, Vice Chairman of the Chinese Drama Association, brought a set of "codes" for Yu Opera to Shanghai
From September 15th to 17th, Henan Li Shujian Opera Art Center entered Shanghai to carry out a series of exhibition and performance activities. Li Shujian, Vice Chairman of the China Drama Association, Vice Chairman of the Henan Provincial Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and Chairman of the Henan Provincial Drama Association, along with his disciples and artistic masters, held three public welfare performances at the Shanghai Theatre Academy and the Workers' Cultural Palace in Songjiang District, Shanghai.
Led by Li Shujian, assisted by Yu Opera masters Wang Hui and Li Jinzhi, Quyi masters Chen Hongxu, Beijing Opera masters Li Jun, Tang Hexiang, and Fu Xiru, Shanghai Opera masters Mao Shanyu, Yue Opera masters Zhao Zhigang, and comedy performer Wang Rugang. Li Shujian's disciples Shao Fufu, Li Xinwu, Liu Zijie, and young actors Wang Gaibin, Du Yongzhen, and Li Jinghua performed exceptionally well, providing high-quality art meals for Shanghai students, national model workers, and frontline workers.

Li Shujian is performing
"I will lead my disciples to persist in creative transformation and innovative development, sing of the motherland, praise heroes, tell Chinese stories well, and spread the voice of China well." Li Shujian introduced a set of "passwords" to Shanghai media: 241, 148, 93, 183, 91740. He explained that he had 241 apprentices, including 148 professional apprentices and 93 non professional apprentices. Professional college apprentices inherited traditional Chinese opera, while non professional apprentices popularized it. Among the apprentices, 18 are women, 3 are from abroad, and more than 30 are internet celebrities with millions of fans. 91740 has apprentices spread across 9 provinces, 17 genres, and 40 cities.

Foreigners Singing Yu Opera
As a treasure of traditional Chinese opera, Yu Opera is one of the cultural landmarks of Henan. There are currently 163 professional Yu Opera troupes and over 2100 private Yu Opera troupes nationwide, with a workforce of 100000. According to incomplete statistics, there are currently 2.8 million people from Henan province in Shanghai, including hundreds of thousands of fans of Henan opera. This time, Li Shujian and his disciples went to Shanghai to carry out a series of performance activities, building a bridge for communication and exchange between Henan and Shanghai.

The audience responded warmly
At the invitation of the Organizing Committee of the 2023 International Theatre Invitation Exhibition of Shanghai Performing Arts World, Li Shujian and the Henan Yuju Theater Second Troupe performed two Yuju plays "On the Qingfeng Pavilion" at the Shanghai China Grand Theater from October 21st to 22nd.

Huang Changyong, Dean of Shanghai Academy of Drama, stated that the art of Yu Opera is vast and profound, has a wide influence, and has a deep mass foundation. Shanghai Academy of Drama will include the establishment of Yu Opera classes in its next enrollment plan.
This series of performances is jointly organized by Shanghai Theatre Academy, Songjiang District Workers' Cultural Palace, and Henan Li Shujian Opera Art Center. It is hosted by Shanghai Theatre Academy Opera Academy, co organized by Henan Radio and Television Station Yueyang Studio, and supported by the Shanghai Opera Culture Collaborative Innovation Center.
