The film "Volunteer Army: Heroes Attack" directed by Chen Kaige released its "Original Intention" special on September 19th. Through the behind the scenes stories of the two main scenes in the film, it showcases the original intention and process of filming the "Volunteer Army" trilogy to the audience.
As the first part of the trilogy "Volunteer Army", "Volunteer Army: Heroic Attack" tells the story of how to make decisions to send troops, and how the Chinese People's Volunteer Army entered Korea and launched the first and second battles. The film will be released nationwide on September 28th.

The biggest difference between the trilogy of "Volunteer Army" and previous anti US aid Korean themed films is that it is presented in a panoramic and multi-dimensional way. The first story revolves around the first and second battles of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army entering North Korea. Dai Ruyi, Yang Shaocheng, Sun Xing, and others from the 38th Army, who were responsible for blocking the enemy at Songgu Peak, will appear in this part. With the development of the war, new characters will emerge in the second part, such as Li Xiang of the 63rd Army, Fu Chongbi, Cai Changyuan, and so on. The third part describes the beginning of peace negotiations, where negotiations take place while fighting, including the Battle of Shangganling and the ceasefire negotiations in Panmunjom, which will be highlighted in the final part. To this end, the creators built a 1:1 replica of the United Nations scene based on historical data from that year. Actor Zhang Songwen was very shocked when he first entered this scene, and the high fidelity also made Zhang Ziyi, who played Tang Sheng, feel the solemn moment 73 years ago.
The actors also strive to replicate the images of the past, and Wu Xiuquan's every move and gesture will be reproduced in the movie. In the Second Battle of Resisting US Aggression and Aid Korea, the Battle of Songgufeng was fought back by the 3rd Company of the 1st Battalion of the 335th Regiment of the 112th Division of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army, with the strength of a hundred soldiers, against the US military for more than five hours. They repelled five consecutive attacks, for which the 3rd Company paid a significant sacrifice. The Chinese People's Volunteer Army has gained prestige and deterred the US military through this battle. To portray the brutality of the battle and the tenacity of the soldiers, the actors shuttle between the "gunfire" and "close contact" with the explosive sawdust, striving to recreate the bravery and perseverance of the 3rd Company back then. The filming of this battle was also a test for the creators, who attempted complex aerial shots with camera scheduling. Photography director Zhao Fei said, "Although filming was difficult, everything was worth it because we were paying tribute to the heroes."
Are there any pine trees on Songgu Peak? There is no detailed record in history, but Chen Kaige hopes to have a real, living pine tree erected there. In his view, "the pine tree is a symbol of courage and perseverance in our cultural connotation," which is consistent with the integrity of the volunteer soldiers and even all Chinese people. At the same time, it can make the place of "Songgu Peak" more concrete. For this, the crew planted a pine tree and let it experience the war with the soldiers. Nowadays, this pine tree is still thriving in its original place, witnessing a group of people's journey back to that touching story.
