It is a complex interchange system. "The Warehouse" debuts at the Shanghai Film Festival: Youth is not a single-plank bridge
"I made "The Warehouse" because I wanted to film youth. I hope that people who are in adolescence or have stepped out of adolescence and are heading into adulthood will feel that it is great to be young after watching "The Warehouse." Director and screenwriter Zhang Yudi said. On June 14, the movie "The Warehouse" was shown at the "Belt and Road" Film Week of the Shanghai International Film Festival.
"Daocang" tells the story of Sun Xiaolei, a student at a drama school, who is facing his first important competition in his life. He is anxious about the delayed voice change. While preparing for the competition, Sun Xiaolei unexpectedly becomes friends with two competitors - Shi Jiahui, a tomboyish female old actor, and Xie Tianci, who comes from a famous Peking Opera family.
"Dao Cang" won the first prize of the 15th FIRST Youth Film Festival and the "China Good Story" winning project of the 34th China Film Golden Rooster Award Film Venture Conference. The characters in the film are all unique. Sun Xiaolei was born in a family of opera and was highly expected by his father, but he was a "weird" in the eyes of his classmates who never changed his voice. Because he was afraid of losing his clear childish voice, he was full of fear of "Dao Cang". Shi Jiahui is the only girl in the old student class. She is straightforward, straightforward and carefree. She enjoys playing the role of an old student as a boy, but she also longs to be recognized as a girl. Xie Tianci, who is lazy and loves to talk nonsense, dreams of becoming a big star. He disdains Peking Opera, but he insists on opera in his heart.
"When I actually saw the finished film of 'Daocang', I felt as if it was not the actors I chose, but they had been waiting for the roles. They were the characters themselves, waiting to be filmed." At the post-screening sharing session of "Daocang" on June 14, Zhang Yudi said that some of the actors had a foundation in opera, and some had undergone long-term Peking Opera training for the film.
"Voice change made me relive my most painful period, and I felt the same way." Chen Shaoxi, who plays Xie Tianci, has been learning opera since he was a child and graduated from the Chinese Academy of Traditional Chinese Opera. "The voice change period determines the life of an opera actor. Many people choose not to work in this industry after experiencing the voice change period. My teacher once said: It is better to 'fall' early than to 'fall' late. My classmates fell into voice change in the third year of junior high school or the first year of high school, and by the time they took the entrance exam, their voices had a perfect transition period. I was the only one who didn't fall into voice change for a long time, and suddenly fell into voice change when I was about to take the college entrance exam."
Chen Shaoxi's technical secondary school graduation drama is similar to the story of Sun Xiaolei in the film. "On the stage, I suddenly lost my voice and couldn't sing at all." Looking back, Chen Shaoxi wanted to say to Sun Xiaolei, "It's just a failure. A temporary setback in life can't determine anything. There will be many choices in the future. It's up to us to step out step by step and become the best version of ourselves."
In Zhang Yudi's opinion, the change of voice during adolescence may not be so important for ordinary people, but everyone will have one or two key moments during adolescence, such as the college entrance examination, postgraduate entrance examination, and job hunting. "Any choice at a fork in life, everyone will say it is like a thousand troops crossing a single-plank bridge. If you are squeezed down, there may be no turning back in your life. I made "The Fork in the Fork" to say that youth is not a single-plank bridge, but a complex interchange system. If you go the wrong way at this exit, you may get on at the next exit. If you take a wrong turn at this exit, you may go to another scenery. "The Fork in the Fork" is not Sun Xiaolei's fork in the fork, but a checkpoint that everyone must go through during adolescence. There is no wrong answer to youth. No matter which path you take, what is important is the group of people who accompany you through adolescence."
Zhou Meijun, who plays Shi Jiahui, went to the crew of "Daocang" the day after the college entrance examination. "I originally planned to dye my hair that day, but was notified to meet the crew. I said, okay, work is the most important thing." That summer, Zhou Meijun did not dye her hair, but cut her hair short and became the female old actor Shi Jiahui. "The 'Shi Ge' I played was still herself despite the lack of understanding and support from others, because she was very passionate and insisted on being herself in a track that the public believed did not belong to her."
"Everyone may have such memories in their youth, the summer in "Dao Cang", with endless energy and playing with friends day and night. In a flash, the summer is over, and after a few summers, youth is over." Huo Xueying, the screenwriter of "Dao Cang", is happy to see that the audience finds themselves in the teenagers in the film. "The similarities between the characters in "Dao Cang" and us are not only the beautiful parts of youth, but also the anxiety of adolescence. We used to yearn for growth but were confused. They are the same, standing on the bridge of youth and going to the adult world. They don't know what is on the other side of the bridge. The emotional relationship between them stems from dependence, and they keep each other warm. Everyone smells the similar smell on each other and snuggles together like little animals. This kind of sincere friendship is the most precious in adolescence."
Huo Xueying is a fan of Peking Opera. Classic songs from "Wu Jia Po" and "Spring Boudoir Dream" run through the entire film "Dao Cang". "Many people think Peking Opera is too old and don't want to get involved. In fact, one or two hundred years ago, before the popularity of movies and TV series, people used to go to theaters to listen to stories. Peking Opera is a storytelling genre. It has spanned a hundred years to this day and can still convey emotions and ideas. It is also the drama that gives "Dao Cang" wings."
