"Little Monster's Summer" will be released in the summer of 2025, Shanghai Film announced: "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" director Chen Sicheng
On June 14, more than 20 top IPs in the Chinese animation industry, including Sun Wukong, Calabash Brothers, Black Cat Sheriff, and Nezha, appeared at Shanghai Film Studios, kicking off the "Light of Shanghai Film" series of activities on the opening day of the Shanghai International Film Festival. A reporter from Jiefang Daily and Shangguan News learned from the relevant press conference that the movie "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" will be directed by Chen Sicheng; the first animated film of "Chinese Tales" is named "Little Monsters' Summer: Once Upon a Time There Was a Langlang Mountain", which is scheduled to be released in the summer of 2025; the movie "Snow Dragon", adapted from real events, will be directed by Zhang Mo.
The little pig demon, who became famous for the 2023 opening animation "Chinese Wonders", was not only very popular among citizens in the "Shanghai Film IP Fun Party" parade, but also made his first appearance at the press conference as the protagonist of the movie. The first animated film of the "Wonderful Universe", "Little Monster's Summer: Once Upon a Time There Was a Langlang Mountain", will hit the big screen in the summer of 2025. The big movie tells the story of the little pig demon embarking on a new adventure, which is an independent story developed simultaneously with the short film. The film has attracted much attention since it was announced during the Shanghai International Film Festival last year. Now the original team continues to work on it, with Chen Liaoyu as the producer and art director, and Yu Shui as the director and screenwriter of the film. The title "Langlang Mountain" is taken from the most popular word in netizens' discussions, and has become synonymous with young people's workplace stories. In the future, the "Wonderful Universe" will have various forms of derivative peripherals.
The film "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" invited Chen Sicheng to direct and Zhang Ji to write the screenplay. The film is adapted from Sun Ganlu's novel, which won the "Five One Project" Outstanding Work Award and the Mao Dun Literature Award. It is a work that Shanghai Film Group has focused on developing after "Flowers" and highlights the red background and Shanghai style of Shanghai. This is the second time that Chen Sicheng has joined hands with Shanghai Film Group since last year's summer movie "She Vanished".
"For creators, pressure is a daily routine. The original novel has many characters, a vast plot, and complex clues. How to refine and create a group of characters without losing the brilliance of the novel is the more difficult part of the creation." Chen Sicheng said that he is a fan of the original novel. The fireworks of Shanghai in the work are the highlight that distinguishes it from other spy novels, and it is also the part that attracts him. "The screenwriter and I both like the city of Shanghai. I am a child from Northeast China, and Shanghai is my second hometown. I studied here for three years and I am full of affection for this city."
"Xuelong" invited young director and screenwriter Zhang Mo to direct, and Liu Yi to write the screenplay. The film is adapted from real events and is a film that combines commercial benefits and artistic value. It tells the story of the Chinese "Xuelong" research ship rescuing dozens of foreign tourists from the Russian research ship in the Antarctic waters in 2013. The film was shot in Antarctica and will also use virtual shooting technology at the Haopu Film and Television Base in Songjiang District. The production process will rely on the Shanghai Film AI Talent Plan, integrating AI technology to improve production efficiency and optimize visual effects.
Since the launch of the new "iNEW" strategy, Shanghai Film Group has accelerated the construction of the AI ecosystem, driven by listed companies, and paid special attention to "widely issuing invitations to heroes", gathering talents through projects, and linking technology with talents. At the launch ceremony of the "AI" cooperation of Shanghai Film Group, Shanghai Film Group announced that it would work with "AI" ecological partners such as Beijing Film Academy, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Zhixiang Future, and Jieyuexingchen to jointly explore "AI animation", "AI film and television", "AI sound", "AIIP commercial development" and other multi-field applications based on the development of the large model of the Chinese animation school. Among them, the artificial intelligence research team HKGAI led by the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, as a strategic partner of Shanghai Film Group AI, will jointly develop Shanghai Film Group's high-quality audio and video data resources and rich commercial application scenarios; and the Beijing Film Academy, which has a deep relationship with Shanghai Animation Film Group, will become an important collaborator in creating the application value, scenes and aesthetic style of the large model of the Chinese animation school.
In order to comprehensively evaluate the capabilities of big models in film and television works, Shanghai Film Group and National Business Daily announced that they will jointly produce the "Big Model Movie Application Scenario Evaluation Report", which will evaluate vertical application scenarios based on eight dimensions: technical capabilities, application scenarios, user experience, ease of operation, economic benefits, market acceptance, social impact, and security and compliance, to provide strong support for the innovative development of the film and television industry.
The two competitions held by Shanghai Film Group to discover the creative talents of "AI film and television" also welcomed the award ceremony at this press conference. Among them, the "Global AI Film Marathon Competition" was jointly hosted by Shanghai Film Co., Ltd., Shanghai Film New Vision Fund and filmMarathon, a platform for young film creators. Since its launch in Los Angeles in April this year, it has attracted more than 700 teams from more than 180 cities around the world to participate, and selected 8 awards including the IP Creativity Award, the B Station Audience Choice Award, and the Best Technology Award for the two tracks of "Nezha Conquers the Dragon King" IP "Mythology World" and He Xi IP "Science Fiction Universe". The "60-year Legend of "Havoc in Heaven" AI Creation Competition", hosted by Shanghai Film Yuan and technically supported by Tiamat, a leading domestic AI generation platform, also announced 5 winning works that stood out from more than 3,000 entries, showing the "72 changes" of AI creation. The outstanding works and works of specially invited artists in this AI Creation Competition were all exhibited at Shanghai Film City, and precious historical creation materials such as character design, scene design, and creative storyboards of "Havoc in Heaven" were also exhibited at the same time.
