The first standard theater in Suzhou and Hebei, Shanghai Daning Theater, has opened for 12 years this year. Recently, the theater announced the launch of the end of 2023 performance season, bringing 8 works from 6 domestic and foreign theater troupes, including 5 Chinese or Shanghai premieres.
The end of 2023 performance season of Daning Theater focuses on "dancing and joking", focusing on dance and drama, with themes spanning between classical and contemporary. The performance season will kick off in early November and end on December 31st. With the transition between old and new, it will illuminate the city's night with the light of art and culture.

The French Noah Theatre Company's performances of the classic Moliere comedy "The Puppet" and Beckett's absurd classic "Waiting for Godot" will be presented to Shanghai audiences for the first time. Serge Neuer, the artistic director of the Nono Theatre Company, gained great fame in France for directing "Macbeth" in 1993. His directorial works combine postmodern installation art with traditional theatrical performance, with a strong visual impact. This version of "Waiting for Godot" was praised as "grasping the essence of Beckett.".

The new work "Notre Dame de Paris" by Liaoning Ballet will make its debut in Shanghai during the performance season. As the painstaking work of Liao Ba for four years, the neoclassical ballet "Notre Dame Cathedral" is led by renowned director Patrick de Barra. The composition, lighting, clothing, and other creative teams from both domestic and foreign forces are gathered, arranging and reorganizing familiar storylines in different time spaces. Ao Dingwen, the gold medalist of the International Ballet Competition, and the chief actors of Liaoning Ballet, Zhang Haidong, Wang Zhanfeng, and others will also present "Star GALA", which gathers classic ballet segments such as "Spartak" and "Swan Lake".

The original dance drama "Chang'e" by the Shanghai Opera House reinterprets "Chang'e's journey to the moon" from a modern perspective. Through rich and diverse body language, dance beauty, lighting, multimedia, and sound interaction, it artistically expresses the themes of "the moon has its ups and downs" and "people have their joys and sorrows". Since its premiere, "Chang'e" has won praise for its extraordinary contemporary aesthetics and Shanghai style temperament. Dance scenes have been performed at the CCTV Mid Autumn Festival Gala, and its theme music has also been selected for the promotional video of the "Chang'e-5" lunar probe.
