On September 17th, 2023, the Shanghai Rowing Open entered its second race day, mainly featuring 500 meter city sprint races for each category.
"Boarding the boat" did not disappoint such expectations. This year, she further upgraded and invited overseas rowing teams to join for the first time. The Australian national rowing team, Cambridge University rowing team, Oxford Brooks University rowing team, and others gathered at Suzhou River. Whether it's for rowing or for these rowing masters who have come from afar, this is a brand new experience.
Cambridge rowing team member Hayes bluntly stated after the race, "This is a crazy race track." Before pursuing a PhD in urban planning in Cambridge, Hayes had studied at Harvard and revealed that he had competed on the Charles River for the past five years, but the Suzhou River in this race still made him feel extremely excited. Henry, the head coach of the Oxford University rowing team, believes that rowing is a combination of excellent urban scenery and extremely challenging events. "With such beautiful track scenery and so many beautiful buildings, it can be one of the best rowing events in the world."
In the men's eight person single sculls with helmsmen competition, the Cambridge University rowing team won first place, and the team members took a photo with a landmark building in Shanghai after winning the award.
Equally excited, of course, is the audience. In the two-day competition, people stopped early on both sides of the track to occupy a golden viewing spot. There are people of all ages and genders in the crowd, and it is common to have a family. Some hold DSLR cameras, while others hold binoculars. "This competition is so beautiful. I believe more people will come to watch it live in the future. Holding a competition in Suzhou River is really a different experience," said a citizen.
