Kashgar Institute of Technology unveiled its plaque and held its first opening ceremony. This is the first full-time vocational school in Kashgar region that specializes in science and engineering.
The college is located in Shache County, Kashgar Prefecture, and Shanghai has invested nearly 600 million yuan in aid to Xinjiang. After completion, Shanghai elements can be seen everywhere on the campus. The roads around the school are named Shanghai Road, Pudong Avenue, Jinxiu Road, and Qiancheng Road respectively; The school etiquette gate is inspired by the gate of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, which has a strong traditional Chinese cultural flavor. The I-shaped building gate adopts the European architectural style of Shanghai Wujiaochang, highlighting the organic integration of Eastern and Western architectural styles.

Why does Shanghai need to build a university in Shache County, Kashgar, 5000 kilometers away? Since 2010, Shanghai's aid to Xinjiang has continued to promote high-quality economic and social development in the Kashgar region. The entire Kashgar region has a population of nearly 4.6 million, and the population of Shache County exceeds one million. At the same time, with the accelerated development of Kashgar region, industrial construction also urgently needs high-quality skilled talents, and local people are more inclined to receive skill training and employment locally. Previously, Kashgar Vocational and Technical College was the first and only comprehensive vocational college in the Kashgar region, with an annual enrollment scale of nearly 10000 people far from meeting local demand. According to the requirements of the Kashgar Municipal Committee, the Shanghai Front Command for Aid to Xinjiang will take the lead in preparing and constructing Kashgar Institute of Technology in Shache. The college is oriented towards key industries in the Kashgar region and positioned with characteristics of science and engineering. In terms of professional settings, the first batch of five departments and one college will be established, namely the Department of Health Nursing, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Department of Automotive Engineering, Department of Electronic Information, and Continuing Education College, which are in line with the actual development needs of the local economy and society; In terms of spatial layout, taking into account the distribution of local industries, we will construct professional training bases, such as the Automotive Testing and Maintenance Technology Professional Training Base, which is adjacent to the local automotive market; In terms of social practice, the school has initially established cooperative relationships with some state-owned enterprises in Shanghai, as well as some enterprises in Kashgar, Hotan, and Korla regions.

This year, the first batch of vocational colleges in the school has recruited 600 students from six majors: Construction Engineering Technology, Mechatronics Integration Technology, Electrical Automation Technology, Automotive Testing and Maintenance Technology, Computer Network Technology, and Nursing. At the same time, Shache Second Vocational School will be incorporated into the college as a vocational department, which not only fully utilizes campus resources but also lays a solid foundation for the future integration of secondary and higher vocational education. The vocational department will recruit 2000 students, including vocational college students and existing vocational school students. A total of 3931 students will start school in mid September.
Shanghai attaches great importance to education assistance to Xinjiang and fully supports the construction of Kashgar University of Technology through various assistance models such as "group style" assistance, flexible talent introduction, and silver age plan. At present, the school has backbone talents from 16 universities in Shanghai to assist and support the school's education and teaching work. At the same time, the school plans to send outstanding students to Shanghai for training and exchange activities.
