On December 20, 2022, the report "Accused of killing a family of three and sentenced to death with a reprieve, Henan Tan Xiuyi was wrongly sentenced to 29 years in prison and finally acquitted" attracted widespread attention.
Previously, the Tan Xiuyi case was included in this year's highest prosecution work report. On the afternoon of March 7th this year, the first session of the 14th National People's Congress held its second plenary session at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Zhang Jun, the Prosecutor General of the Supreme People's Procuratorate, presented a report on the work of the Supreme People's Procuratorate to the conference. The report of the Supreme People's Procuratorate stated that we must resolutely correct and prevent wrongful cases. The prosecutor is both a criminal prosecutor and an innocent protector. From 2018 to 2022, the procuratorial organs resolutely prevented false arrests and false charges, and did not approve the arrest of 818000 people and did not prosecute 211000 people who did not constitute a crime or lacked evidence in accordance with the law, an increase of 30% and 69.4% respectively compared to the previous five years. Adhering to the principle of no charges for suspected crimes and correcting any mistakes, the court has raised objections or made retrial recommendations for 10 major wrongful cases with an original verdict of more than 10 years, and has acquitted all of them. The report of the Supreme People's Procuratorate mentioned that Tan Xiuyi was sentenced to death with a reprieve and detained for 29 years for a massacre. After the Supreme People's Procuratorate protested, it was acquitted and urged the public security organs to continue investigating the real culprit.
On January 10, 2023, Tan Xiuyi submitted a national compensation application to the Higher People's Court of Henan Province, demanding compensation of more than 17.49 million yuan for the infringement of personal freedom and emotional distress.
Red Star News learned that Tan Xiuyi was criminally detained on July 21, 1993 and released on October 20, 2022, with a total of 10684 days in custody.
Li Xun introduced that Tan Xiuyi received more than 7.87 million yuan in national compensation, of which more than 4.37 million yuan was compensation for infringement of personal freedom, and 3.499 million yuan was compensation for mental damages.

The Henan High Court did not support Tan Xiuyi's other demands. Red Star News reporters learned that before Tan Xiuyi received national compensation, the Henan Provincial High Court had already apologized to Tan Xiuyi.
