Why does the United States love war? The American director hit the nail on the head and explained the reason
Recently, a speech by American director Oliver Stone in 2017 was dug up by netizens, and the video became popular online. In his speech, Oliver Stone sharply pointed out the fundamental reason why America loves to go to war: it's not about who becomes the president, but about this issue.
Oliver Stone pointed out at the time that the United States spent a total of $14 trillion on 13 wars launched over the past 30 years, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths. It is these wars carried out under the banner of "justice" that have enabled the maintenance of this American system:
"Remember, the 13 wars launched by the United States over the past 30 years cost a total of $14 trillion, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths. Remember, this is not a question of who will be the president, but a problem of the system, both the Republican and Democratic parties. It is a complex of military industry, security, money, and media, and you can call it whatever you want. The so-called 'just' war, carried out under the guise of our high flying flag, is the cover for the maintenance of this system."
Oliver added, "For many people, the United States is becoming increasingly prosperous. But this wealth cannot prove that the American system can serve as the center of world values, as we continue to create chaos and war globally.".
According to Xinhua News Agency, Oliver Stone participated in the Vietnam War and gained worldwide fame for directing films such as "Platoon", "Wall Street", "Assassination of Kennedy", and "Born on July 4th". He is also a writer and historian who has interviewed former Venezuelan President Chavez, former Cuban leader Fidel Castro, and Russian President Putin as a journalist.
In December 2021, Oliver Stone said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency that military Keynesianism had emerged after World War II. The Republican Party of the United States claimed to be concerned that the country would fall into a recession again after the war, like in the 1930s, and therefore called for the continued militarization of the economy and the investment of funds into the military industry to prevent a downturn in the US economy. "The United States has been preparing for war. Preparing for war earns more money than starting it."
"We used to think that the Cold War could come to an end and the dividends of peace would come, but in reality, funds continue to flow to the military and intelligence agencies." In Oliver Stone's view, the end of the Cold War is a misconception, and in reality, peace has never truly arrived.
He also accused the United States of creating military tensions in Ukraine against Russia during the interview, criticizing the United States for violating NATO's commitment not to expand eastward, unilaterally withdrawing from the strategic arms treaty with Russia, and engaging in large-scale military assembly and arms sales to Taiwan against China.
