Wang Yi Holds a Phone Call with French President's Foreign Affairs Advisor Bonaparte
On September 22, 2023, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, had a phone conversation with French President Bonaparte as requested.
Wang Yi said that thanks to the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, China France relations have maintained a high level of development. The comprehensive resumption of exchanges at all levels between the two countries has resulted in substantial progress in practical cooperation in various fields. The Chinese side is willing to work with the French side to jointly plan the activities for the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France and the Cultural Tourism Year next year, injecting new strong momentum into bilateral relations. Both sides should fully leverage the role of strategic dialogue and high-level cultural exchange mechanisms, so as to strengthen political mutual trust, strengthen practical cooperation, enrich cultural exchanges, and deepen the foundation of public opinion between the two countries.
Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 20th anniversary of the establishment of a comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Europe. We are willing to work together with the European side to plan the next steps of exchanges between the two sides and open up new prospects for cooperation between China and Europe. We hope that the European side will adhere to openness and inclusiveness, uphold market principles, support free trade, and prevent falling into the trap of protectionism. China is committed to resolving each other's concerns through dialogue and consultation with the European side, and hopes that the French side can play a constructive role in properly handling relevant anti subsidy investigations.
Bona stated that this year, President Macron's successful visit to China has led to the smooth progress of cooperation in various fields such as politics, economy, trade, and humanities between France and China.France and China have maintained good communication and coordination in multilateral affairs. We would like to express our gratitude to Premier Li Qiang for attending the New Global Financing Compact Summit in France. Working together, France and China can make important contributions to consolidating global cooperation. Looking forward to holding a new round of strategic dialogue with China and strengthening communication and coordination. The French side opposes camp confrontation and has always advocated for Europe to maintain independence and autonomy, and will adhere to a win-win situation between Europe and China. The European Commission's anti subsidy investigation is not targeted at China.
Both sides agree to maintain strategic communication, promote cultural exchanges, and further facilitate personnel exchanges.
Both sides also exchanged views on the Ukrainian crisis. Wang Yi stated that China upholds an objective and fair position and has always been committed to promoting peace talks. I hope that major European powers such as France can play an important role in creating necessary conditions for seeking political solutions.
