United Nations: Deeply concerned, the United States has provided cluster ammunition to Ukraine | United Nations | United States
According to the Russian news agency Sputnik, UN Deputy Secretary General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs, Zhong Manquan, stated at a Security Council meeting on the 12th local time that there are reports that cluster ammunition has begun to be provided and used in the crisis situation in Ukraine, which deeply concerns the United Nations.
According to the Russian news agency Sputnik, Zhong Manquan said, "The news of the transfer and use of cluster ammunition in war is concerning. The United Nations Secretary General has repeatedly called for an immediate cessation of the use of cluster ammunition. According to the Secretary General's long-standing position, this weapon must become history."
According to reports, US President Biden announced on July 7th that he has decided to provide cluster ammunition to Ukraine. On July 20th, John Kirby, Coordinator of Strategic Communications at the National Security Council of the United States, stated that Ukraine has started using cluster ammunition provided by the United States.
Recently, four American officials revealed that the Biden administration is about to approve the delivery of long-range missiles equipped with cluster bombs to Ukraine, thereby enabling Ukraine to cause significant damage to the enemy.
Due to the stronger killing power and greater likelihood of civilian casualties caused by cluster ammunition compared to regular ammunition, the move by the United States to provide cluster ammunition to Ukraine has caused widespread controversy and concern internationally. Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Zakharova has stated that providing cluster ammunition will endanger civilians, with the aim of prolonging the Ukrainian crisis.
