Ukrainian military officials accused of plotting to overthrow the Georgian government
According to Agence France Presse, Georgia accused a senior Ukrainian official of plotting to overthrow the Georgian government by organizing large-scale riots on September 18th.
The report states that this is the latest update on the escalating tensions between Georgia and Ukraine, two former Soviet republics.
According to reports, Georgian security agencies have claimed that a senior official from the Ukrainian military's anti espionage department and former Georgian Deputy Minister of the Interior, Georgi Lordkipaniz, conspired to create an unstable situation and "violently overthrow the government.".
Georgian security agencies have stated that some Georgians fighting against Russian forces in Ukraine are conspirators of this plan, including a bodyguard of former President Mikhail Saakashvili who was arrested. They are currently undergoing training in Ukraine near the Polish border.
According to reports, Georgian security agencies have stated that these individuals are planning to launch anti-government protests from October to December this year, and the European Commission will announce its decision on Georgia's "accession" application during this period.
Georgian security agencies also claimed that this conspiracy received "coordination and financial support" from a foreign country.
