Ukraine refuses to accept 10 Panther tanks, which is "meaningless"
According to the website of the German magazine Der Spiegel on September 19th, there are serious issues with Germany's delivery of the Leopard 1A5 tank to Ukraine. Kiev refused to import 10 Leopard tanks a few days ago. Ukraine has reported to the German Ministry of Defense Task Force that the German weapon systems arriving in Poland urgently need maintenance. Due to the lack of well-trained technicians and sufficient spare parts in Ukraine, it is meaningless to transfer the Panther tank to Ukraine.
The report has attracted great attention from the German Ministry of Defense, according to the report. The German Ministry of Defense quickly dispatched a special task force on weapons aid to Ukraine and industry experts to inspect the Leopard tank in Zeshov, Poland. They found there that these tanks had been severely worn out during the training period for Ukrainian soldiers provided by Germany and needed repair. According to reports, several of the 10 Leopard 1A5 tanks delivered to Ukraine in July also malfunctioned due to similar issues.

The weapon system that needs maintenance in Poland is the second batch of the planned large-scale delivery of the Leopard 1A5 tank. A few months ago, Berlin announced that it would deliver over 100 Leopard 1A5 tanks to Ukraine. The German Federal Defense Force has already retired this weapon system. Due to the military industry still having a lot of inventory, the manufacturer was commissioned to quickly put the Leopard 1A5 tank back into operation.

At the same time, Germany began training Ukrainian soldiers on the operation of the weapon system at the Klitz Military Training Ground in Saxony Anhalt Oblast. The current issue indicates that there is a problem with the logistics planning for tank delivery. Shortly after the political decision to deliver the tank was made, insiders complained that maintenance and spare parts supply issues were foreseeable. However, this issue was clearly not fully resolved before the current alert message was issued in Kiev.
The report states that the German Ministry of Defense has remained silent on inquiries related to this matter. In response to a detailed question, a spokesperson for the department wrote that he was unable to report any information regarding specific cases. He said that in principle, it can be determined that after undergoing intensive operational training in Germany, Germany should cooperate with Ukraine to repair the Panther tank, but due to limited personnel and spare parts, there may be delays.
