The relationship between the two countries has become tense again, and after the completion of the dam's water storage
According to Agence France Presse, Ethiopia announced on September 10th that the restoration dam built on the Nile River has completed its water storage work. This move has reignited tensions between Ethiopia and Egypt, a downstream country of the Nile River, and Egypt condemns this "unilateral" and "illegal" action.
According to reports, Sudan, another country located downstream of the largest dam in Africa, did not respond on the evening of the 10th.
The report points out that Sudan and Egypt view the revival of the dam as a threat to their water supply, and have repeatedly demanded that Ethiopia stop storing water in the reservoir of the revival dam in recent years, waiting for the three parties to reach an agreement on the operation mode of the dam.
The relevant negotiations between the three countries that have been interrupted since April 2021 resumed on August 27th.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abi Ahmed Ali said on social media platform X on the 10th, "I am very pleased to announce that the fourth and final water storage work for the revival of the dam has been successfully completed."
Abby said, "There are many challenges, and we are often forced to step back. We have encountered internal challenges and external pressure."
He said, "I believe we will complete our plan."
The Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia subsequently released several photos of Abi at the dam site.
The report states that the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has criticized this action.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that "it is illegal to store water in the Fuxing Dam reservoir without reaching an agreement with the two downstream countries" and will "affect" negotiations between these three countries.
