The first trial of the bribery case involving Zhang Wufeng, former Party Secretary and Director of the State Administration of Grain and Material Reserves
On September 21, 2023, the Intermediate People's Court of Deyang City, Sichuan Province, publicly held a first instance hearing on the bribery case of Zhang Wufeng, former Party Secretary and Director of the State Grain and Material Reserve Bureau.
The People's Procuratorate of Deyang City has filed a lawsuit accusing that from 2003 to 2022, the defendant Zhang Wufeng used the convenience of serving as a member of the Party Group and Deputy Director of the Shandong Provincial Administration for Industry and Commerce, Deputy Secretary and Mayor of the Linyi Municipal Committee of Shandong Province, member of the Party Group and Deputy Governor of the Shandong Provincial Government, member of the Party Group of the National Development and Reform Commission, Secretary of the Party Group and Director of the State Grain and Material Reserve Bureau, as well as the convenience of his power or position to provide assistance to relevant units and individuals in engineering contracting, cadre selection and appointment, and other matters. From 2006 to 2022, Zhang Wufeng himself or through enterprises under his actual control illegally received property, totaling more than RMB 16.47 million, of which RMB 1.6 million was not actually obtained at the time of the incident. The procuratorial organs have requested that Zhang Wufeng be held criminally responsible for the crime of bribery.
In the trial, the prosecution presented relevant evidence, and the defendant Zhang Wufeng and his defense counsel cross examined. Both the prosecution and defense fully expressed their opinions under the auspices of the court. Zhang Wufeng made a final statement and pleaded guilty and remorse in court.

At the end of the trial, the court announced an adjournment and announced the verdict at a later date.
More than 40 representatives of the National People's Congress, members of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and people from all walks of life attended the trial.
