Recently, an AI cheat hack has eroded FPS games, eliminating the need to modify game programs and code. With a properly configured graphics card and a box, amateur players can surpass professional players.
In mid August 2023, the Internet Security Brigade of Yujiang Branch of Yingtan Public Security Bureau in Jiangxi Province discovered an industry chain clue suspected of illegal production and sale of game "cheats" during online inspections.
After a month's work, the police handling the case dug and expanded the clues, and successfully targeted the suspect wandering on the Internet. The gang aims to make a profit by continuously developing subordinate agents to sell and produce "cheat" programs and card passwords on WeChat, QQ, and gaming platforms, in order to earn the price difference through layer by layer markup.
Suspect Wang, who contacted FPS games in 2021, bought a "plug-in" on a platform in order to improve his "performance". After several attempts, Wang decided to "sell while fighting". So, as an agent, he followed up with Zhang, the creator of the "cheat" software, and developed it offline. Over the course of a year, Wang felt that the profits were good, so he established a company and focused on selling "cheats" as a career until the incident occurred.
After a thorough investigation, on September 15th, with the assistance of Tencent's Guardian Program security team, the Yujiang Public Security Network Security Brigade, together with the Food, Drug, and Environmental Investigation and Criminal Investigation Brigade, organized more than 20 police officers to carry out a network closure operation in Zhejiang, Chongqing, and other places. A total of 10 suspect were arrested in this operation, including 2 "plug-in" program authors, 1 general agent, 5 primary agents and 2 secondary agents. 10 desktop computers, 7 laptops, and 11 mobile phones were seized at the scene, along with card password generation programs, "cheat" source code, "cheat" auxiliary hardware, and several semi-finished hardware. The involved transaction amount reached 30 million yuan, and the entire chain successfully cracked down on AI technology mode game cheats, which is the first case in the country.
After interrogation, 10 suspect confessed to their illegal and criminal acts. At present, the case is still in further processing.
Police Reminder:
1. Why is selling game cheats suspected of criminal offenses?
The second and third paragraphs of Article 285 of the Criminal Law of our country stipulate the crime of providing programs and tools for invading or illegally controlling computer information systems, as well as the specific sentencing. This crime refers to providing programs and tools specifically for invading or illegally controlling computer information systems, or knowingly providing programs and tools for others to commit illegal and criminal acts of invading or illegally controlling computer information systems, with serious circumstances. Many "cheats" need to disrupt game protection measures or invade and control computer systems in order to function properly. This may be deemed as the crime of providing programs or tools that invade or illegally control computer systems.
2. How to create a fair and green online gaming environment?
"External cheating" software not only brings excitement and excitement to some players, but also violates game rules, seriously affecting the fairness of the game. It not only damages the interests of players and operators, but also to some extent undermines the healthy development of the network economy.
Relevant departments should strengthen network supervision and management, and increase efforts to investigate and punish online trading platforms; Online game developers and operators should build a powerful "anti cheating" system, and timely impose corresponding penalties such as account suspension on "cheating" players to comprehensively enhance game security; Gamers should consciously resist game cheats, work together to maintain game balance, create a fair and green online gaming environment, and not wander on the edge of illegal activities for profit.
