The first case in the country! The Beijing subway has started transporting express delivery
Starting from September 23rd, Beijing Subway will pilot the transportation of express delivery during non peak hours, which is also the first pilot project in the country to utilize the surplus capacity of urban rail transit during non peak hours to transport express delivery.
The first batch of pilot lines include Line 4 and Line 9 Fangshan Yanfang. On the basis of not adjusting the departure and stop times of trains, not affecting passenger travel, and not carrying out equipment and facility renovations, express delivery will be organized through fixed routes and escorted by dedicated personnel.
【1】 During off peak hours on Line 4, Yunshunfeng Local Express
At present, the permanent population of Beijing exceeds 20 million, with a daily delivery volume of approximately 15 million parcels, mainly transported through urban roads.
"In recent years, the scale of Beijing's urban rail transit has continued to expand, with 27 operating routes and a mileage of 807 kilometers. Beijing actively explores innovation and utilizes the surplus capacity of urban rail transit during off peak hours to carry out express delivery transportation. The relevant person in charge of the Municipal Transportation Commission introduced that this pilot project is also an attempt by the freight" transit to rail "in the field of urban transportation, exploring a new mode of logistics distribution from road transportation to rail transportation.".
Led by the Municipal Transportation Commission, extensive research and supply-demand matching analysis were organized, and Line 4 and Line 9 Fangshan Yanfang were selected as the first batch of pilot lines.
Among them, the pilot project of the 9th Fangshan Yanfang Line was launched on September 23, taking advantage of the sufficient transportation capacity in the direction of leaving the city after 9am to transport newspapers and magazines. Get on at Liuliqiao Station on Line 9 and transport to Yanshan Station on Yanfang Line.
The pilot work of Line 4 was launched on September 25th, and the trial operation of express delivery transportation will only be carried out during non peak hours on weekdays. At 12:30 and 15:30, the shipment was divided into two batches and shipped via SF Express in the same city. The average full load rate of the transportation section during this period is less than 50%. The express delivery on this route is taken from Xidan, National Library, and Weigongcun Station, and then transported to Huangzhuang Station in Haidian to get off.
【2】 Double security personnel escorting without affecting passengers
To ensure the safe and orderly operation of pilot lines and ensure the safety of passenger travel, the transported goods on pilot lines must comply with the "Catalogue of Prohibited Items in Beijing Rail Transit" and pass subway security checks. Based on the transportation characteristics of the two routes, different security inspection modes have been identified.

Among them, Line 4 adopts a dual security check mode of pre screening and station security check, manually screening out packages that meet the requirements in advance and conducting centralized security checks at the station.
The newspapers and periodicals transported on the 9th Fangshan Yanfang Line are fixed and meet the requirements. Postal personnel inspect, package, and affix seals on the newspapers and periodicals. After arriving at the station, subway security personnel inspect the seals on site and enter the station directly.
During transportation, the goods should be neatly placed in a fixed area inside the carriage, without affecting the passengers on board, and meet the safety requirements of the subway.
Both pilot lines are arranged with dedicated personnel to follow and escort the goods, ensuring that there is a dedicated person to supervise the transportation of goods in the subway carriages, and ensuring that the goods do not affect the travel of passengers during the transportation process.
【3】 Enterprise research and development of specialized equipment for subway "express delivery"
In order to more efficiently utilize subway express delivery, pilot enterprises have developed specialized equipment for urban rail transit transportation.
SF Express has selected recyclable containers suitable for urban rail transportation to load and transport express packages.
China Post Beijing Branch has collaborated with operating enterprises to develop dedicated urban rail transit carts. According to the parameter requirements of subway facilities and equipment, the body size, wheel parameters and materials of the dedicated trolley have been determined to facilitate transportation operations and improve the safety of goods transportation.
According to the relevant person in charge of the Municipal Transportation Commission, utilizing the surplus capacity of urban rail transit during non peak hours to carry out express delivery transportation, replacing truck transportation, improving the efficiency of existing urban rail transit resources utilization, is conducive to reducing the demand for express delivery and freight vehicle road transportation, gradually alleviating urban road traffic congestion, and reducing carbon emissions.
