The entire robot industry chain accelerates innovative development
In the first half of this year, China's industrial robot production reached 222000 sets, a year-on-year increase of 5.4%. The installed capacity of industrial robots accounted for over 50% of the world's total, firmly ranking first in the world; Service robots and special robots continue to develop rapidly, with a production volume of 3.53 million sets of service robots, a year-on-year increase of 9.6%.
Currently, the development level of China's robotics industry is steadily improving and accelerating its entry into daily life, effectively driving the transformation of economic and social intelligence.
Further expansion of applications
With the deepening development of a new round of technological revolution and industrial transformation, the robotics industry has entered a period of development opportunities with intensive and active technological innovation and deep application expansion.
In the field of industrial robots, various indicators such as product speed, reliability, and load capacity are constantly improving. Some products have an average fault free running time of 80000 hours, and the maximum load capacity has been increased from 500 kilograms to 700 kilograms; Significant achievements have been made in the innovative application of services and special robots, such as the approval of a single hole laparoscopic surgical robot for market launch, the completion of 5100 meter underwater testing by the Insight underwater robot, and the use of drainage robots, drones, and other auxiliary rescue teams to carry out tasks such as flood control and disaster relief.
"The innovation and development of the entire robot industry chain in China is steadily advancing, with continuous expansion of scenario applications, continuous improvement of industrial comprehensive strength, and gradual enhancement of core competitiveness. It has played an increasingly important role in technological innovation, high-end manufacturing, and integrated applications," said Xin Guobin, Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology.
Driven by policy support and market demand, the operating revenue of China's robotics industry exceeded 170 billion yuan last year, continuing to maintain double-digit growth.
The output quality of various innovative entities is steadily improving, and the innovation chain is constantly improving, effectively promoting the upgrading of the robotics industry to high-end. Various fields such as agricultural production, industrial operations, life and health, and life services are expected to usher in a new stage with robots as the key support.
At the recent 2023 World Robotics Conference, the white body spot welding robot workstation consisting of four over 2-meter-high Xinsong SR210D industrial robotic arms left a deep impression on visitors. "The automotive welding line has a tight process structure, high technical difficulty and high industry barriers, which requires multiple welding robots to operate accurately, efficiently and stably without failures." Ma Cheng, the industry manager of Shenyang Xinsong Robot Automation Co., Ltd., said that, combined with the industrial Internet and big data applications, robots can conduct real-time collection, monitoring and analysis of data such as production line operation and welding quality, and assist users in scientific management and decision-making.
"At present, the density of manufacturing robots in the industrial field has reached 392 per 10000 workers. The application of industrial robots covers 65 major categories and 206 medium categories of industries. They are more widely used in traditional industries such as bathroom, ceramics, hardware, and furniture, and are accelerating the emergence of new industries such as new energy vehicles, lithium batteries, and photovoltaics. The depth and breadth of robot applications have been greatly expanded," said Xin Guobin.
Seize new tracks
The humanoid robot "You You", which participated in the 31st Summer Universiade, was independently developed by Ubisoft Technology and represents the latest research achievements of embodied intelligent agents in China. It can not only understand human language and recognize objects, but also effectively control body movements.
"In the era of industrial automation, manual labor is still indispensable. In the future, humanoid robots can collaborate with traditional automation equipment to solve complex scenarios of flexible unmanned operation, and independently complete high difficulty tasks such as torque tightening and material handling." Zhou Jian, founder, chairman, and CEO of Ubisoft, revealed that Ubisoft is exploring the application of humanoid robots in industrial scenarios such as new energy vehicles and smart logistics with leading domestic enterprises. Meanwhile, with the implementation of companion and service functions, it is only a matter of time before humanoid robots enter homes.

"Currently, new technologies, products, and formats represented by humanoid robots and general artificial intelligence are flourishing, becoming a high ground for global technological innovation, a new track for future industries, and a new engine for economic growth." Xu Xiaolan, Deputy Minister of Industry and Information Technology, said that breakthrough progress in artificial intelligence technology has provided an important driving force for the innovative development of humanoid robots, and the world is ushering in a wave of integrated development of humanoid robots and general artificial intelligence.
Xu Xiaolan stated that in order to promote the high-level development of humanoid robot technology and industry, we must adhere to the engineering path of application traction, whole machine drive, soft hard collaboration, and ecological construction. With the breakthrough of general artificial intelligence technology as the engine, we will create the brain and cerebellum of humanoid robots, support the construction of national humanoid robot manufacturing innovation centers, key laboratories, and other innovation carriers, enhance the supply capacity of key common technologies, and empower more industries to innovate and develop.
Gathering Intelligence to Promote Innovation
In recent years, many places have accelerated the layout of the robot industry, implemented classified policies to expand the depth and breadth of robot applications, and formed a group of robot industry clusters that integrate research and development, production, and service.
Chen Ying, Vice Chairman and Secretary General of the China Electronics Society, stated that from the distribution of national level specialized, refined, and innovative "little giant" enterprises and listed companies in the field of robotics in China, high-quality robotics enterprises are mainly distributed in the Beijing Tianjin Hebei, Yangtze River Delta, and Pearl River Delta regions, forming industrial clusters represented by cities such as Beijing, Shenzhen, Shanghai, Dongguan, Hangzhou, Tianjin, Suzhou, Foshan, Guangzhou, Qingdao, etc. Under the leadership and drive of local high-quality enterprises, a group of enterprises with strong competitiveness in specific fields have emerged.
At the beginning of this year, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and 17 other departments jointly issued the Implementation Plan for the "Robot+" Application Action, proposing to promote innovative practices in the "Robot+" application in various industries and regions based on their development stages and regional characteristics.
Policy guidance, actively responded by various regions. Beijing Yizhuang recently released the "Three Year Action Plan for High Quality Development of the Robot Industry in Beijing Economic and Technological Development Zone", which proposes that by 2025, the compound annual growth rate of robot research and development investment will reach over 50%, and 50 robot application scenario demonstration projects will be built. The density of robots in industrial enterprises above designated size will reach 360 units per 10000 people, and the output value scale will reach 10 billion yuan.
"Beijing regards robots as the industrial direction for high-quality development in the capital in the new era, and proposes multiple specific measures to promote industrial innovation and development from four aspects: supporting enterprise innovation, promoting industrial agglomeration, accelerating scenario application, and strengthening factor guarantee." said Su Guobin, Deputy Director of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology.
"China has a vast market for robot applications. With the steady implementation of the 'Robot+' initiative and the continuous deepening and implementation of applications in new energy vehicles, medical surgery, power inspection, photovoltaics and other fields, it will strongly support the digital transformation and intelligent upgrading of the industry." Chen Ying said.
