The current president visits China again, after a gap of 19 years
According to the CCTV News client, on the afternoon of September 21st, Syrian President Bashar al Assad arrived at Hangzhou Xiaoshan International Airport by plane.
President Bashar will attend the opening ceremony of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou and participate in related activities.
On the 19th local time, the Office of the Syrian President announced that Syrian President Bashar al Assad will visit China with his wife and a senior delegation in the near future.
The statement states that the members of the high-level delegation include the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Overseas Chinese Affairs of Syria, the Minister of Economy and Foreign Trade, the Minister of Presidential Affairs, and others.
The Governor of Chang'an Street noticed that Bashar's last visit to China was in 2004, which was the first time a Syrian head of state had visited China since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 1956.
China is the sixth country visited by Bashar since the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War in 2011. Prior to this visit to China, Bashar had already visited Russia, Iran, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Saudi Arabia.
After the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War in 2011, the United States and its allies strongly supported the Syrian opposition armed forces, leading to continuous local wars and conflicts. The economic sanctions imposed by Western countries have led to a continuous decline in the Syrian economy.
China has always been concerned about humanitarian issues in Syria and actively provides humanitarian assistance. On January 12 last year, China and Syria officially signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Jointly Promoting the Construction of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, and Syria officially became a new member of the "the Belt and Road" family.
During this year's Turkey Syria earthquake, Syrian airspace has been blocked by the United States due to sanctions. China is actively speaking out for Syria, not only providing emergency assistance quickly, but also calling on the United States to lift sanctions and make way for international assistance to Syria.
With Iran and Saudi Arabia re establishing diplomatic relations under China's mediation, the Middle East has ushered in a wave of diplomacy. Saudi Arabia ignored the warning from the United States, invited Bashar al Assad to participate in the Arab League summit, and restored Syria's formal membership. Syria broke free from diplomatic coldness and returned to the core circle of Arab countries.
In April this year, during a meeting with the Chinese government's Middle East envoy Zhai Jun, Bashar not only praised China's mediation of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran, which has had a positive impact on the stability of the entire Middle East region, but also mentioned the new trend of abandoning the use of the US dollar and choosing the Chinese yuan as the settlement currency for cross-border trade.
He stated that the most significant positive change in the world is undoubtedly China, which is playing an increasingly important role in a calm and balanced manner, and has created new models in the global political, economic, and cultural fields based on the principles of stability, peace, and common interests. "Both politically and economically, the world today requires China's presence and its ability to rebalance the global situation."
