Since joining the United Nations Creative City Network in 2010 and becoming the "City of Design", Shanghai has accelerated the gathering of excellent design enterprises and talents, continuously emerging innovative design achievements, and increasing its international and domestic influence. This year, we will welcome the second World Design Capital Conference, hosted by the Shanghai Municipal People's Government, and all preparations have entered the sprint stage.

It is reported that the main session of the 2023 World Design Capital Conference will be from September 26th to 28th, and exhibitions and activities will continue until October 2nd. This year's conference will focus on the goal of "gathering people, promoting production, and promoting business", as well as the positioning of internationalization, specialization, and marketization. It will further gather global creative design resources, create a world-class design forefront benchmark, innovation source, and new product debut. The theme of this year's conference is "Creating Everything with Boundless Design", presenting an overall event structure of "1+2+3+10+X", which includes one opening ceremony, dual line layout at home and overseas, three summits, nearly a hundred peak forums, release ceremonies, fashion shows, and design carnival events in 10 major design fields, as well as X city wide, overseas, and online collaborative activities.

Building a Global Design Cooperation and Exchange Platform

This conference is committed to planning the "World Wave" and creating an international event where Chinese and foreign creativity complement each other. The conference highlights a global perspective and invites the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the National Committee for UNESCO in China as supporting units. The conference will also release cooperation projects between Shanghai and UNESCO.

At the same time, a global "Creative City" design summit will be held, inviting representatives from 43 cities in 29 countries to participate online and offline to explore future urban design and launch Shanghai's plan and indicator system.

In terms of forums, the conference will invite representatives from global design industry organizations, top design schools, design masters, academician experts, and leading enterprises to share, and the number of speakers is expected to exceed a thousand. The "Shanghai International Design Hundred Talents" think tank and the "International Design Hundred Talents" summit led by Tongji University will jointly discuss the construction of "design innovation oriented" cities.

The event gathers global resources, and the home exhibition features a network exhibition area for the world's "Design Capital", an Italian VIP exhibition area, and a Nordic joint exhibition area. At the same time, it will also be linked with the London Design Festival, Milan Fashion Week, and other events to hold the "Design Shanghai Airlines" series in London, as well as the "Shanghai Fashion Day" show and exhibition in Milan.

Exploring the Road of Design Leading High Quality Development

The conference focuses on showcasing the "technological paradigm", showcasing the application of AIGC technology, highly focusing on design to promote the transformation of scientific and technological achievements, continuously creating new products, cultivating new models, and new business formats, and transforming "runway" into "market".

It is reported that during the conference, the outstanding design achievements of "Shanghai Design 100+" in 2023 will be released. The list is selected from 2542 works from 18 countries including China, the United States, France, Italy, Spain, etc., showcasing the innovative achievements of design empowering the industry, lighting up life, serving the city, and insight into the future through excellent cases. The shortlisted products have achieved sales of 51.8 billion yuan, and are expected to have a total sales of 470 billion yuan during the product lifecycle. To promote win-win industrial cooperation, the conference will release a batch of creative design industry projects, including Shanghai Zhixing Design Valley, NICE2035 Chifeng Road International Design Street, and Design Financial Support Platform. Carefully crafted a home exhibition consisting of an industrial museum, a fashion museum, etc., with a total area of 20000 square meters. Selecting over a hundred leading international and domestic enterprises to participate in the exhibition, we present the latest interpretation of design driven industrial innovation, empowering a better life, and serving urban construction, showcasing the driving ability of design to drive industrial development from 1 to 100.

At the same time, a "Future Design" summit will be held, focusing on the five major industrial clusters of future health, future intelligence, future energy, future space, and future materials.
