Ten years of meticulous craftsmanship ushered in a grand "flowering period". Asian Games builders: Looking forward to the blooming of the "big lotus"
The opening of the Hangzhou Asian Games has entered a "countdown" time, and the "Big Lotus" on the banks of the Qiantang River - the Hangzhou Olympic Sports Center Stadium, has been in full bloom for four years since its completion and operation in 2019.
"Everything is ready, just waiting for the final flowers to bloom." Recently, Wei Xiaoqing, the deputy manager of the "Big Lotus" project, said that the one-year intelligent improvement project of "Big Lotus" has been successfully completed.
After 8 years of construction and 1 year of renovation, Wei Xiaoqing dedicated his precious 9 years of life to this "big lotus". He still remembers the moment when he won the bid. On December 13, 2010, at the bidding office of the Urban Construction Bureau in Binjiang District, Hangzhou City, Zhongtian Construction, a private enterprise, stood out in the fierce competition with outstanding technical solutions and won the "Big Lotus" project with a construction area of 216000 square meters and a construction difficulty no less than the "Bird's Nest".
From then on, Wei Xiaoqing and a team of 900 people from Zhongtian lived and ate on the construction site for a full 8 years. They planted the third landmark sports stadium with a capacity of 80000 people in China, after Beijing and Guangzhou, in the form of a beautiful lotus on the banks of the Qiantang River, and won Zhongtian's 26th highest honor of engineering quality in the Chinese construction industry, the Luban Award, as well as 15 invention and utility model patents, 5 national and provincial-level construction methods, 1 national QC achievement, the National Green Construction Demonstration Project, and the Zhejiang Provincial Construction Science and Technology Progress Award. Lou Yongliang, Chairman of Zhongtian Group, said that the "Big Lotus" embodies the modern engineering service ability of Zhongtian Technology's intelligent manufacturing. It is also an inevitable trend in the development of the construction industry.
28000 tons of steel tendons and iron bones have been transformed into "finger bending". 28 large petals, with the heaviest one weighing 839 tons, equivalent to the weight of the Long March 5 carrier rocket during takeoff. The heaviest one weighs 139 tons, and the longest one has a span of 51 meters. "The construction difficulty is the biggest we have ever encountered," said Wei Xiaoqing.
Wei Xiaoqing and the builders built a "mini lotus" on site. All construction details were first modeled on a computer to verify the feasibility of the technology, and then a 1:1 on-site measurement was conducted. It took six months from the completion of the model production to the cutting of the first steel plate. In order to overcome the problem of the top ring beam structure of the "Big Lotus", there have been no less than 5 expert demonstration meetings inviting academicians to participate.
After being put into use, "Da Lianhua" has held concerts with over 10000 people and hosted annual meetings of large enterprises, which have been successfully tested. With the rapid advancement of digital technology, Hangzhou, as the "first city of digital economy," has provided a large number of new technologies for the "Big Lotus" to meet the "peak" test of the Asian Games. In the summer of 2022, Zhongtian received a new task - to digitize and enhance the original functions of "Big Lotus", especially to intelligently enhance the software and hardware highly related to the safety and convenience of audience watching, and add a fully intelligent access control system.
Wei Xiaoqing was recalled and returned to his familiar "Big Lotus" once again. He was ordered to make this lotus flower smarter with high quality and efficiency in the shortest possible time. "Fortunately, the difficulty of this mission is much lower than before," Wei Xiaoqing admitted. "The" Big Lotus "left enough space for future upgrades at the beginning of its design and construction.".
After completing the intelligent enhancement, the "Big Lotus" is equipped with intelligent recognition systems at each entrance, which can achieve different pedestrian flows during the competition, without crossing each other, to ensure the fairness and justice of the competition and the safety and order of the venue to the greatest extent possible. The 165 intelligent ticket gates in the surrounding area have also been intelligently upgraded, and different ticket verification schemes can be provided for different levels of events during the Hangzhou Asian Games. Based on the fact that "Big Lotus" has over 80000 seats, canceling paper tickets means reducing the use of over 80000 sheets of paper, truly reflecting the zero waste concept of Asian Games venue construction.
"As a builder, how many such projects can I participate in in my life? Now it's finally time to sprint, my heart is like counting seconds, waiting for it to bloom," said Wei Xiaoqing.
